High school fire suppressed by sprinklers (Waynesboro, PA)

Police have arrested a suspect in an arson fire which occurred at a high school on Wednesday morning. The fire, which started in a restroom, was extinguished quickly by the school’s fire sprinkler system. The high school was evacuated for fifteen minutes, and no one was injured.

Condominium fire squelched thanks to fire sprinklers (Hampton, NH)

A four-story condominium caught fire on Monday morning on one of the unit’s enclosed porches. Investigators believe that the fire began around or above an exterior light on the underside of a second story porch. The heat from the fire activated the condominium’s fire sprinkler system, which Hampton Fire Chief reported helped to contain the fire to the porch area. No injuries were reported.

Fire sprinklers keep fire from spreading in high rise hotel (Atlantic City, NJ)

An electrical fire erupted on the 57th floor of the Tropicana Hotel at about 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 17. Firefighters tracked the fire to a hotel bathroom and found that the sprinkler system contained the fire; they extinguished the remaining flames. Residents were able to evacuate safely, and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters responded to a fire reported in a retail store the morning of Tuesday, April 15. When they arrived, they found that there had been a small fire, but the fire had been extinguished by the store’s fire sprinkler system. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and there were no injuries reported.

Sprinklers assist fire crews in putting out manufacturing plant fire (Oakville, ON)

At about 9 a.m. a fire began at an automobile manufacturing plant. An automobile caught fire during some welding work within the plant; the sprinkler system activated and this quick action combined with fire crews who arrived at the scene suppressed the fire.

There were no injuries during the incident.

A fire began in the electrical box at a restaurant on Sunday morning. Employees of the restaurant, which shares a building with several other businesses, were able to evacuate safely. According to the fire crews at the scene, the building’s fire sprinklers activated on the fire, preventing the damage to the building from being much worse. No injuries were reported.

Fire sprinklers save property and lives from arson fire (Harrisburg, PA)

Investigators are reporting that a fire that began in a vacant apartment was intentionally set on Thursday morning. Fire Chief Brian Enterline said that the fire sprinkler system had not only prevented significant property loss, but possibly saved several lives. At the time of the fire, firefighters were already suppressing a fire at another location; two city units as well as surrounding fire companies were sent out to cover the apartment fire. Enterline also said that had it not been for the fire sprinklers, the fire would have spread throughout the apartment before it would have been discovered. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Shortly before 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, fire sprinklers activated and controlled a fire in a third floor unit of an apartment building. The cause of the fire is improperly disposed smoking materials; no injuries were reported.

Fire sprinklers limit damage and save lives in commercial building (Rancho Santa Fe, CA)

Fire crews responded to a mid-morning fire at a commercial building on Tuesday, March 4. Upon arrival, they discovered that the fire had been eliminated by a single sprinkler head. 

 

Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Chris Galindo said, “Fortunately, the fire protection system worked as it was intended to. The single sprinkler head provided the occupants with time to safely evacuate the building and kept the fire from spreading and causing further damage.”

 

There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire appeared to be accidental.

Sprinklers limit damage at unoccupied restaurant (San Diego, CA)

When a fire broke out in a restaurant while it was closed, the building’s fire sprinkler kicked in to squelch the fire. According to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Lee Swanson, the sprinklers had activated prior to the SDFRD’s arrival.

“So when we got there, there was no active fire,” he said.

There were no injuries, and the exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
