Damage minimized at GM plant thanks to fire sprinklers (Arlington, TX)

After a fire broke out at a GM plant, fire sprinklers aided workers in suppressing the flames, GM spokesperson Donna McLallen said. The Arlington Fire Department said that while the call came into them at 12:08 p.m., the fire was out by 12:28 p.m. There were no injuries reported.

The store’s sprinkler system activated and knocked down most of the flames. Firefighters had to connect a hose to quell the rest of the blaze. About six employees and an unknown number of customers were in the store and yoga studio at the time of the fire, but no one reported injuries

The fire began in shrubs and mulch bordering the apartment building. Fire Capt. Calvin Lawrence said a casually discarded cigarette may have started the fire. Sprinkler system prevented further damage.

“The sprinkler system contained the fire, which began in a sofa,” Dayton District Chief Joe Meyer said. A couple hundred occupants were evacuated safety because of the quick notification of the sprinkler system.

When firefighters arrived on the sixth floor of the 10-story building, they saw smoke in the hallways and finished off the fire within minutes. The fire was caused by a box left on a burner that had been inadvertently turned on. 200 residents live in the building. No injuries were reported and damage was contained to one apartment.

Just before firefighters were going to release water on the fire, the home’s sprinkler system kicked on and extinguished the fire in about 15 seconds, according to the fire district. Everyone evacuated from the home and there were no injuries.

According to a fire department report, a small fire broke out about 12:15 p.m. in an imitation potted plant in a stairwell of the two-story building. That triggered smoke alarms and the building’s overhead sprinkler system.

Fire Inspector Rick Campos says the fire was caused by an improperly disposed of match. The bar was not open at the time. Campos says owner Ron Tegtmeier lit a candle in his office and threw the match away in the garbage can, which later started on fire.Campos says the fire was contained to the office because Uncle Ron’s had a sprinkler system installed.

Fire at apartment building extinguished by building’s sprinkler system (East Bay, RI)

A small fire broke out inside an apartment at Franklin Court Independent Living Community at around noon on Friday, prompting “all available manpower” to be called to the scene. By the time firefighters arrived, the building’s sprinkler system had been activated and the fire had been extinguished.
