Sprinklers make the difference in arson incident at jewelry store (Fresno, CA)

On Tuesday, June 3, a fire was intentionally set in the basement of a building that housed a jewelry store. Arriving firefighters found that three fires had been started and extinguished by the building’s fire sprinkler system; the gas line had also been cut. Fresno Fire Department Koby Johns said that it was very fortunate that the building was equipped with a fire sprinkler system. 

No injuries were reported.

Sprinklers make the difference in fire at retail store (College Station, TX)

A mid-morning fire was reported in the storage room of a retail store on Thursday, May 7. Fire crews responded within a few minutes to the scene, and they found that the fire had been contained to a small area by the building’s fire sprinklers. The first responders were able to quickly put out the rest of the fire. No injuries were reported in the incident, and the cause of the College Station Fire Marshal’s office determined that the fire was caused by the failure of a control wire in the HVAC system.

Just before 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, an automobile dealership reported a fire that began in the shop area. While the exact cause of the fire is under investigation, witnesses are crediting the dealership’s fire sprinkler system with putting out the flames. There were no injuries reported in the incident.

Shoppers in a department store were safely evacuated Saturday morning when dense smoke came in from the west side of the building. The fire’s source was discovered in the area of the trash compactor and dumpster, and the building’s fire sprinkler controlled the fire until fire crews arrived. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

When they arrived, they found that there had been a small fire, but the fire had been extinguished by the store’s fire sprinkler system. Supermarket fire squelched by sprinkler (London, UK)

During the early morning hours of March 31st, a fire began in a supermarket in the United Kingdom. The flames began in the loading dock area, and the heat then activated the sprinkler which kept the fire under control until fire crews arrived.

 

A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said, “Thankfully this building was fitted with sprinklers, which helped to prevent fire the fire from spreading into the supermarket and causing more serious damage.”

 

There were no injuries, and an investigation is underway for the fire’s cause.

Retail store fire suppressed by installed sprinklers (Cambridge, ON)

An electronics retailer had a fire break out, and local firefighters were alerted at about 1:30 a.m. on Monday. The facility’s fire sprinklers suppressed the majority of the flames. Cambridge fire officials believe the fire was started by a faulty extension cord. There were no reported injuries.

Sprinklers limit damage at tire distribution business (Chambersburg, PA)

No injuries occurred from a fire at a tire distribution facility on Saturday afternoon. An employee smelled smoke coming from a stack of tires that were placed floor to ceiling, and he called fire crews to the scene.

“The fire triggered the sprinkler system and did what it was designed to do,” Chambersburg Fire Department Captain Tim Ebersole said. He does not believe that work will be suspended at the business.
