Anaheim, CA – Sprinkler system extinguishes night club fire just before Snoop Dogg performance; No injuries

A chandelier broke out in flames at Heat Ultra Lounge in Anaheim Friday, where rapper Snoop Dogg was set to celebrate his birthday.

The fire happened around 11:30 p.m. at the 300 block of Katella Avenue, but was extinguished before fire authorities arrived.

The event was canceled after sprinklers at the nightclub put out the fire, and nearly 600 attendants were forced to evacuate.

The nightclub owner said a make-up show is expected to be scheduled.  The cause of the fire remained under investigation.

Bloomington, IL – Sprinkler system limits damage in early morning fire at Kroger grocery store

It was a slightly later open than usual for the Kroger grocery store at 1502 N. Main Street in Bloomington on Friday. A Kroger spokesman confirmed there was a small fire that broke out in a manager’s office. Spokesman John Elliott said the fire activated the sprinkler system and there was no damage.

Bloomington Fire Department spokesman Stewart Blade said crews were called to the store at 5:15 a.m. The store has since reopened. Blade said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Palm Beach, FL – Fire at Bath & Tennis Club quickly extinguished by sprinkler system

Traffic was rerouted this evening around the Bath & Tennis Club in the 1100 block of South Ocean Boulevard due to a small fire from a garbage can in the paint shop that was extinguished quickly, said Palm Beach Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Sean Baker. The road was open again by 7:15.

“Some paper products caught fire and the sprinkler system held the fire in check,” Baker said. “It was out pretty quickly.” Baker said there was no smoke damage, only water damage

Thunder Bay, ON, Canada – Fire at Bombardier plant controlled by sprinkler system; No injuries

Thunder Bay’s Bombardier plant was forced to evacuate its employees Wednesday afternoon, after a fire broke out inside the facility. The call came in at around 3 p.m.. Thunder Bay fire crews rushed to the plant on Montreal Street, after reports of a structural fire. As it turns out the fire was contained to a piece of equipment. The plant’s sprinkler system was activated and Bombardier staff apparently had the fire out before fire crews arrived.

Hundreds of employees were evacuated as a precautionary measure. There’s no word on how much damage was done to the equipment in the area where the fire started.

Half Moon Bay, CA – Overnight fire at hardware store contained by sprinkler system

Hassett Hardware employees were alerted early this morning to a small fire at the Main Street business. It resulted in damaged special orders due to smoke and sprinkler system. “It was just a small fire in our receiving area,” said Hassett Hardware co-owner Eric Hassett. “The fire suppression system kicked in and prevented the spread fairly quickly.”

The fire alarm went off after 1 a.m. and Hassett said they had an employee on the scene within 10 minutes. Firefighters showed up shortly after that. CalFire Battalion Chief David Cosgrave said firefighters were there until 5 a.m. to ensure the fire was out and to remove burned materials. The cause of the fire is still unknown at this point, Hassett said, but employees suspect an oil-stained rag that was in a melted trashcan could have been the culprit.

The fire left no structural damage, Hassett said, and mostly affected customer special orders for items such as jackets and pants. The employees are going through the mess right now but, Hassett said the business is still operating as usual. “On the front end customers won’t notice,” Hassett said. “It smells a whole lot worse than it really was.”

Duluth, GA – Sprinkler system saves strip mall from damage in fire; No injuries

A small fire at a strip shopping center undergoing construction in Duluth caused minimal damage Wednesday afternoon, thanks to an automatic sprinkler system.

Firefighters responded around 4:48 p.m. to a report of a fire at the shopping center in the 3940 block of Buford Highway, according to Capt. Tommy Rutledge, public information officer for the Gwinnett County fire department.

Crews arrived to find light smoke and the sprinkler system activated. They discovered a small fire in an unoccupied store suite that was had already been extinguished by the sprinklers.

The fire caused minimal damage, as the suite was vacant at the time and no contents were involved. The fire appears accidental and was sparked by a floor compound during construction work. There were no injuries reported and no damage to the structure, Rutledge said.

Akron, OH – Sprinklers help control fire and limit damage in fire at funeral home

Akron firefighters are investigating the cause of a Wednesday-morning fire at a South Main Street funeral home. The fire broke out about 9 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home in the 1900 block of South Main Street. A smoke alarm alerted firefighters.

Several employees were inside the building when the alarm sounded. No one was injured.

Akron Fire Department Capt. Don Klein said firefighters arrived and found smoke coming from the roof. Firefighters found the fire burning in the attic near the side of the building. Firefighters attacked the blaze from the inside first, then put the rest of the fire out from the outside, Klein said.

The fire was under control within about 10 minutes, and it took about 40 minutes to completely extinguish the blaze. “About 10 more minutes it would have been really bad,” Klein said. “These guys got here really quick and did a great job.”

Officials have no estimate of how much damage the fire caused. The attic sustained smoke and fire damage. Water from the firefighters and the building’s sprinkler system caused most of the damage, Klein said.

Fire investigators said it’s too early to tell the cause of the fire. They are investigating several possibilities, including an electrical problem or that the fire was started because of a new crematorium recently installed in the building.

Eric Anthony, an employee of the funeral home, said the fire would not interrupt business. He said they expected to reopen soon.No funerals will be affected by the fire, he said.

Bowling Green, KY – Fire at home surplus store held in check by sprinkler system

Bowling Green firefighters were called to Super Home Surplus, 2326 Russellville Road, at 3 a.m. after an electrical fire in wiring ignited near a neon sign between the roof and a dropped ceiling, BGFD spokesman Marlee Boenig said.

There was fire damage to a front showroom and minimal water damage to the building, she said. No one was injured. Firefighters remained on the scene for 3-1/2 hours to fight the fire and investigate the cause, Boenig said.

A sprinkler near the point of origin helped keep the fire in check until firefighters arrived, and the sprinkler minimized damage, she said. The department responded with seven trucks and 22 personnel.

Pasadena, TX – Sprinkler system activates to extinguish industrial chemical fire

Fire Department Initial Response: On October 07, 2015, The Pasadena Fire Department along with several other agencies responded to 5000 Underwood for a reported industrial fire. Upon their arrival they discovered that a chemical explosion had occurred resulting in a fire. The buildings fire sprinkler system activated and extinguished the fire. The fire sprinkler and alarm system functioned as designed notifying the occupants of the building who evacuated.

This incident shows the importance of an automatic fire sprinkler system and demonstrates that if the building did not have an automatic sprinkler system, the outcome could have been completely different.

Furthermore there is no doubt whatsoever that at the very least the presence of a sprinkler system saved hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage and property loss to the building owners and potentially prevented citizens and firefighters from being injured or killed.’

Troy, MI – Sprinkler system extinguishes kitchen fire at preschool; no injuries

The Troy Fire Department was dispatched to the School Bell Early Childhood Education Center on Troy’s northeast side Saturday evening in response to a fire alarm that was activated at the school.

Upon arrival around 6:15 p.m., firefighters observed water from the sprinkler system coming out from around a closed window, the report said. After entering the building, which was unoccupied at the time, firefighters could see smoke coming from the school’s kitchen. The fire had already been extinguished by the sprinkler system, so firefighters shut the water off to the sprinklers and ventilated the smoke from the building, the report said.

Preliminary investigation showed that the fire occurred after the stove was accidentally turned on when produce items were delivered and placed on top of it several hours earlier.

Fire damage was limited to the stove top and cabinets above, and the preschool was able to open for classes on Monday. Fire personnel were on the scene for about 45 minutes.
