Crews responded at 11 a.m. to a fire reported in a storage room at the Stars Rooftop and Grill Room, the Charleston Fire Department said in a Twitter post.
Sprinklers activated and contained the fire until the fire department arrived.
There were no injuries and firefighters reported minimal damage.
There weren’t any reports of injuries.
According to officials, on Saturday morning around 11 a.m., Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel were called to the Willow Manor at Fairland apartment complex for reports of a fire in the stairwell.
Firefighters discovered “there was a fire in the stairwell, especially between the second and third floors … there was a sprinkler activation, pretty heavy smoke conditions throughout the building,” fire department spokesman Pete Piringer told WTOP.
“We did evacuate some people. We did assist some of the other residents either sheltering in place, or getting out,” Piringer said. “But fortunately there were no injuries and the fire was extinguished pretty quickly.”
The cause of the fire may have been an improperly discarded cigarette.
“Apparently, some folks tend to smoke in that particular stairwell. And they improperly discarded one of the cigarette butts and caused the fire,” Piringer said. “Fortunately, the sprinkler system did keep the fire in check.”
Initial estimates of the damage are around $25,000 — not including water damage, Piringer said in a tweet Saturday afternoon.
At least 30 residents of the building will be temporarily displaced due to smoke or water damage.
“The Red Cross has been called in along with our Department of Health and Human Services Emergency Management Group to assist those residents. It appears as though at least, temporarily, initially, about 30 apartments (and) 30 residents will be affected,” Piringer told WTOP.
It was later announced that the Colrain Road school would be closed on Wednesday to allow teachers a chance to regroup and consider how to move forward.
A small fire in a high school bathroom set off the fire alarm and sprinkler system, causing “significant” damage throughout the building, according to an email sent to families from Acting Head of School Zevey Steinitz. The building will likely not be in use for at least a couple of weeks while crews work to repair the water damage.
“Along with solving the practical problem of where to house our high school for the next couple of weeks, our main goal is to restore a sense of safety for our community,” Steinitz wrote to families.
Classes for middle school students are expected to resume on Thursday.
“We are currently reaching out to local community resources for options for our high school program and already have some promising leads,” Steinitz wrote.
According to Fire Chief Robert Strahan, firefighters responded to the school at around 10 a.m. to a report of a fire alarm.
“Crews found smoke conditions and a sprinkler activation upon arrival,” he said. “They were able to quickly identify a small fire. That fire was extinguished very quickly.”
According to an email sent to the community earlier in the day, school officials were given approval to release students at both the middle school and high school.
Buses were scheduled to transport regular riders, and students who needed to stay until the end of the day were supervised in the Farmhouse, according to the email.
Steinitz declined to comment further when reached by phone on Tuesday. In her email to families, she advised that to prevent the spread of rumors, any information students or parents have that may be relevant should be shared with either her or Dean of Students Matt Leaf.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Greenfield Fire Department, detectives from the Greenfield Police Department and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
“The agencies were on scene for several hours while the investigation was being conducted,” Strahan said.
The fire took place on a stove at the home on Northwest 12th Street near North Harvey Avenue.
As the sprinklers took out the fire, fire officials said the home suffered extensive floor damage to the bottom floor of the multi-story complex.
Fire crews needed help removing residents from the building. Embark sent a bus to the home so residents had a place to sit as firefighters entered the structure.
One person was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation due to possible smoke inhalation.
The Oklahoma City Fire Department said the damage displaced living spaces for two of the home’s residents.
The Wood-Ridge Fire Department was alerted to the fire by a central station monitored smoke detector system which covers 251B through 255 Valley Boulevard, according to Wood-Ridge Chief of Department Kenneth Schulz.
Upon arrival of Fire Chief officers, an employee of the Empanada Shop reported smoke in the basement of his establishment.
The Chief officers found a working fire in the basement of the adjoining business, Emilia Romagna Restaurant. A fire sprinkler system in this basement kept the fire contained until first arriving Wood-Ridge Fire Department companies aggressively extinguished the fire preventing further spread, said Schulz.
The fire has closed Emilia Romagna indefinitely, according to Schulz. There was minor smoke damage to the businesses at 251 B and 251A Valley Blvd.
The one block stretch of Valley Boulevard, from Marlboro Road to Windsor Road, was closed for most of the day.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Arson Squad.
Mutual aid fire departments assisting on the second alarm at the scene were Carlstadt, Hasbrouck Heights, and Wallington. Little Ferry, Lodi, and Moonachie covered Wood-Ridge headquarters and responded to a second fire alarm in another part of town.
The Italian restaurant anchors the stretch of stores which includes a butcher, physical therapy office, nail salon, convenience store, juice bar, and several other restaurants.
The first units arrived around 11:30 p.m and found a fire located in a room on the 400 hall of the facility.
Thirteen residents were forced out of their rooms while six others sheltered in place.
The facility’s sprinkler system had contained the fire to a single room, through the Fayetteville Fire Department said the fire did extend to the exterior of the building.
Crews were able to extenguish the fire, which officials with the department said was caused by a mounted heater.
Cape Fear Valley EMS is assessing residents of the facility, though no injuries have been reported.
A fire sprinkler system did its job at a Madison apartment complex Sunday.
Crews were called to the complex in the 200 block of North Walbridge Avenue just after 11 a.m.
Officials said a resident on the third floor had heated oil on a stovetop, which caused a fire. The fire sprinkler system was activated, extinguishing the flames.
No injuries were reported and no occupants were displaced. Officials said the fire caused about $1,500 worth of damage.
Firefighters arrived on scene to discover that a computer located in the Clerk of the Court’s office in the North Wing had caught fire, which had spread to a cabinet area. The sprinkler system was activated, helping to extinguish the flames. However, the Clerk of the Court and Register of Wills offices now have significant water and smoke damage.
Talbot County Manager Clay Stamp says disaster clean up company Royal Plus dispatched dozens of trucks and workers to assist with clean up. “At this point in time, the water has been removed and the air has been scrubbed in the main part of the courthouse. So, the court rooms should be open in the next several days,” he said.
The Talbot County Courthouse Finance Office, Circuit Court, Clerk of Court, and Register of Wills offices remained closed Monday. The South Wing of the Courthouse including the offices of Administrative Services, County Council Office, County Manager’s Office, County Attorney’s Office, and Information Technology opened as normal.
Court rooms are expected to reopen in the next several days, according to Stamp. But, the Clerk of the Court and Register of Wills offices could remain out of service for longer. “The best option is to check the website for both the register of wills and the Talbot County clerk of court. There will be information posted every day as to the status of where they are,” said Stamp. “We will do everything necessary to get services back up and running as quickly as possible.”
Stamp says right now, county officials are trying to figure out how quickly they’ll be able to open up the second floor of the courthouse. He adds they’re appreciative to the first responders and royal plus for assisting in the clean up.
No injuries were reported and sprinkler systems deployed automatically, helping to bring down the flames.
Lower School students and teachers have since been relocated to the Hendrix-Chenault Theater as fire officials work to identify the cause of the fire.
Atlanta Fire Rescue says they have extinguished a fire in the kitchen of The Lovett School.
In a tweet, they say they are staying on scene for further investigation.
The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department tweeted Monday morning that it was responding to The Lovett School because of “heavy smoke coming from the structure.”
Details are very limited at this time, but Atlanta Fire Rescue says all children at the school have been evacuated as of 9:17 a.m.

Responders say that due to the sprinkler system activation, there was little damage and the fire was contained to a small corner of the kitchen. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but ruled to be accidental.
Crews estimate roughly $15,000 in damage.
