Police evacuated the building due to heavy smoke. Pulaski Tri-County Fire Department firefighters were able to turn off the water flow and checked for additional hot spots.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but police say it is not suspicious in nature.
Fresno Fire responded at about 8 a.m. Sunday.
Battalion Chief Kirk Wanless said the initial call for service was someone setting something on fire inside the store.
By the time firefighters arrived, smoke had filled much of the store and fire was found in an aisle.
The store’s sprinkler system activated as firefighters were about to go in.
Firefighters were able to search the entire store and get everyone out. No one was injured.
Officials say they suspect the fire was arson and are following up on all leads.
The Fresno County Department of Public Health was called to inspect the food damaged from the fire and smoke to see what, if anything, is salvageable.
A staff member at Foods Co. said they cannot comment on when the store will reopen.
All employees had safely evacuated the building by the time firefighters responded to the scene near Buckeye Road and Third Street around 8:30 a.m., the Phoenix Fire Department said.
Capt. Todd Keller told KTAR News 92.3 FM the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“I can tell you that the sprinkler system did a fabulous job preventing the fire from extending to the building, which allowed our firefighters to go in and assist with the extinguishment of the fire,” Keller said.
“Because these battery’s cells store a high amount of energy in such a small amount of space … once one of these cells goes, it’s extremely difficult to put out.”
After the fire was extinguished, the vehicle was put in a Phoenix Streets Department environmental dumpster to be taken for proper recycling.
Keller said the Waymo facility is used to service the company’s self-driving vehicles.
“They bring the electric vehicles to the Waymo warehouse and equip them. They download the software, they get all the cameras ready and get them ready for the road,” he said.
Officials say the fire was contained with the help of a sprinkler system inside the kitchen.
One employee received minor injuries related to smoke inhalation. The business will be closed for the remainder of the day.
TIFR is working with the restaurant to assist them in opening back up on Saturday.
Officials said crews responded to the scene along N. College Row shortly after Midnight.
According to officials, when crews arrived, they noticed smoke from the kitchen, so they activated the sprinkler system, which contained the flames, and helped firefighters extinguish them. Thankfully, officials reported that no injuries were reported following the incident.
The Transylvania County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating to determine the cause of the fire.
A report of a fire alarm activated at Central Place Apartments, 629 Central Ave., was received at 9:17 a.m.
Police officers who were first on the scene reported smoke on the second floor of the six-story building.
Fire Department Capt. Jeff Hill said the source of the smoke was determined to be apartment 202. There, he said, three sprinkler heads activated and extinguished a fire that was burning a chair and some cushions.
Firefighters searched the apartment for people and put out a couple of hot spots. They also ventilated smoke from the apartment.
Police officers helped to evacuate residents of the other apartments. Those residents were allowed to go inside next door at Citizens Central.
Hill said the occupant of the apartment was home when the fire started, but was able to get out into the hallway.
Apartment 202 sustained smoke, fire and water damage, while the apartment below it sustained water damage.
The American Red Cross is assisting the resident of the fire-damaged apartment, Hill said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, he said.
Emergency personnel were on the scene until 11 a.m.
Firefighters received an alarm call from the building at 630 E. State St. around 9:20 p.m. Monday. Investigators in the fire department say the flames started in a 10th floor bedroom. The sprinkler system contained the flames until crews arrived to extinguish the rest.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire. They estimate the damage at $5,000. No one was injured in this incident, and the Red Cross is helping the residents find a place to stay.
The fire started at the Eaton Corp. building, located near East 39th Street and Yost Avenue, around 10 a.m.
Eaton had discontinued operations at the building, but employees and contractors were on site disassembling and removing equipment, authorities say.
While an employee was using a plasma cutter to cut metal, built-up oil residues ignited, according to officials.
The fire was contained by the building’s sprinkler system until crews arrived to completely extinguish the flames.
Before the sprinklers went off, fire officials said an employee pulled the fire alarm, and all six employees in the building evacuated.
No one was injured in the fire.
The Hastings Fire Marshal did issue two citations for failing to follow a hot work permit, directly resulting in a structure fire, authorities say.
Hastings Fire & Rescue said a similar incident happened at the factory on Jan. 6.
When firefighters arrived, they found smoke in the building and an evacuation was in progress.
Firefighters located the fire and extinguished it with a pressurized water can. Other RFD crews searched for victims and worked to locate the sprinkler system controls to shut it off.
Fans were set up in the building to ventilate the smoke.
The fire caused a small amount of damage to the contents of the closet and there was some water damage to the first floor and basement.
There were no injuries.
Automatic fire sprinkler systems limited the growth of the fire and provided occupants valuable time to evacuate. In this incident, fire damage was limited to the room of origin and RFD said it serves as another great example of how sprinkler systems can save lives and property.
Caldwell Fire Department said in a release that on the morning of Feb. 8, Canyon County Dispatch received several reports of a fire alarm having been activated inside of a home.
Caldwell Fire crews were dispatched to the two-story multi-family fourplex. Upon arrival, no smoke nor flames could be detected, however, the audible water flow alarm was activated.
No one was home at the time of the incident.
Upon further investigation, it was determined that a fire had indeed broken out in one of the bedrooms. Crews concluded that the fire suppression system had activated, effectively extinguishing the fire that erupted in the back bedroom of one of the first-floor apartments.
The statement iterated that if not for the sprinkler system, damages could have been exponential. They said the fire would have grown much larger, moving into the adjacent units and buildings, potentially displacing several families.
Let this serve as a reminder to keep fire and smoke alarms updated; and next time you reach for those batteries to replace your dying remote control…don’t.
“This is a good reminder that fire suppression systems work,” said Deputy Chief Alan Perry, Fire Marshal, Caldwell Fire Department.
“The need for fire suppression systems in residential settings is paramount as high-density living situations become more and more common.”
