La Mesa, CA – Sprinkler system activated for fire at apartment complex

Thirty residents of a La Mesa apartment complex were displaced after a fire sparked in their building Monday evening, a fire official said.

Crews were dispatched just before 7:40 p.m. to the Spring Hill Apartments, on Spring Street northeast of state Route 125, Heartland Fire & Rescue spokesperson Andy McKellar said.

There was a fire in a top floor apartment. Crews had it out by shortly after 8 p.m., he said.

The sprinkler system did activate, “helping to keep the fire in check,” McKellar said.

McKellar said firefighters contained the fire to one unit, but an additional 15 apartments were affected by water from the sprinkler system.

He said the Red Cross was called in to assist residents who needed help.

Peachtree City, GA – Sprinkler system activated for arson fire at Walmart

A 14-year-old girl in Georgia was charged with arson after being accused of setting a fire inside Walmart.

The Peachtree City Police Department believes the teen intentionally started a fire in the paper goods aisle of the store, WGCL reports.

According to police, officers executed a search warrant at the 14-year-old’s home, where they said she admitted to starting the fire.

Investigators said the girl stated no motive behind setting the fire. It was said to be her impulsive decision.

Authorities said the fire was set around 7:20 p.m. Aug. 24. It took firefighters throughout the night to get the fire under control. It was finally extinguished around 4 a.m. the following day.

Although the store’s sprinkler system functioned as designed, the store suffered extensive damage to the interior and the roof.

Three Peachtree City police officers who evacuated the store had to be treated for smoke inhalation, but no one was seriously injured.

Incline Village, NV – Sprinkler system contains structure fire until crews arrive; No injuries reported

A structure fire near Incline Village has been ruled accidental, officials with the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District say.

No injuries were reported in the fire.

The fire broke out on the evening of Aug. 11. Fire officials credited a single fire sprinkler for containing the blaze to one specific area and preventing further damage.

No other information was provided.

Lower Merion, PA – Sprinkler system activated for restaurant fire; No injuries reported

 A fire broke out in downtown Ardmore Friday night, causing a brief interruption in the evening restaurant scene.

According to officials, firefighters from the Merion Fire Company of Ardmore were called to 11 Cricket Avenue Friday night at 7:24 on the report of a fire alarm.

Arriving crews found heavy smoke in the basement of the two-story building.

The incident commander declared a working fire, and all other Lower Merion fire companies responded.

A burning electrical panel was quickly controlled by both the internal sprinkler system and by firefighters.

The fire was declared under control in 50 minutes, and there were no injuries reported.

Lethbridge, AB, Canada – Sprinkler system extinguishes fire at four story apartment complex; No injuries reported

Around $75,000 worth of damage was done thanks to a fire in a four-storey apartment complex in the city on Friday night.

Lethbridge Fire and EMS officials say they got to the scene on Highlands Boulevard West approximately 8:30, and were met with a majority of residents already evacuated, and smoke showing from the third story on the north east side of the complex.

The building’s sprinkler system had extinguished the fire, and crews were able to quickly search all other floors and determine there was no risk to the rest of the building.

No one was injured as a result of the fire, and all but two of the apartments were able to safely house residents again, with the buildings fire suppression system intact and smoke alarm system fully operational.

The investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing.

Houston, TX – Sprinkler system activated for fire at supermarket loading dock; No injuries reported

Firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes to find a fire in a loading dock connected to a supermarket. The made an attack on the fire and with the sprinkler system the fire was controlled and extinguished. A health inspector was requested and HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Metro PD informed HFD a possible suspect was in custody and HPD was on scene for traffic control. Crews from Stations 28, 51, 68 and 37 responded to this incident.

Port Royal, SC – Sprinkler system extinguishes multi-family apartment dwelling; No injuries reported

The City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department credits a sprinkler for extinguishing an apartment fire Monday evening.

Fire crews responded to a kitchen fire at Laurel Hill Apartments in Port Royal just before 7 p.m. on Monday Upon arrival, crews reported light smoke showing from a three-story, multi-family dwelling.

Officials say the fire was quickly extinguished by a sprinkler system which prevented any injuries and further
damage to the apartment and surrounding apartments.

“Multi-family dwelling fires can be very dangerous for everybody involved, the sprinkler did its job by extinguishing the fire very quickly and preventing any injuries from occurring,” said Battalion Chief Matt Bowsher.

The City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department, Beaufort County EMS, and the Town
of Port Royal Police Department all responded to the fire.

Madison, WI – Sprinkler system activated for fire at apartment complex; No injuries reported

A fire at a downtown Madison apartment caused minimal damage thanks to a sprinkler system.

Madison Fire Department crews were sent to the apartment in the 300 block of West Washington Ave. just before 8:30 p.m. Monday after a fire alarm activated.

Crews went to the fourth floor and noticed a slight haze in the hallway. An automatic sprinkler head was found to have activated in one of the apartments, and the resident was inside gathering their things. A charred plastic bag of groceries was found on the stove.

Officials said the person had left the groceries on the stove so that they could leave and move their car. The person was not sure how the stove may have been turned on but guessed that they had bumped a dial when setting the groceries down.

The sprinkler above the stove activated because of the heat of the fire, and quickly put it out. The groceries were the only thing damaged and no injuries were reported.

Rockford, IL – Sprinkler system contains fourth floor apartment fire; No injuries reported

Rockford firefighters dispatched just after 6:00 p.m. Tuesday to the 2100 block of Kishwaukee Street for a kitchen fire.

Units first on scene say black smoke rolled out of a fourth floor apartment fire that started in the kitchen, but was mostly self contained the building sprinkler system.

No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported. Residents on the fourth floor were moved to lower levels, but no other evacuations were necessary.

Bullhead City, AZ – Sprinkler system activated for fire at condominium; No injuries reported

On Tuesday evening, April 19, 2022, at approximately 6:07 PM, several BCFD units were dispatched to a report of a possible structure fire on the 200 block of Moser Ave. The first arriving crew reported a multi-story condominium with smoke showing out of a single unit. Crews quickly confirmed that the unit was unoccupied and were able to gain access through the front door. Fortunately, the building is equipped with an automatic sprinkler system, which properly activated, contained, and extinguished the fire before it was able to spread. No injuries were reported during this incident, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.

Firefighters attribute the working automatic sprinkler system to saving lives and property. Due to the location of this fire, it could have extended into the living spaces of the surrounding units, causing extensive damage.
