A Palmetto man has been arrested for setting two small fires at the Kedron Fieldhouse and Aquatic Center overnight, police said. Police said the fires appear to have been started with some sort of ignitable liquid, and an unidentified liquid also had been poured on several desks in the office area. But the fires set off the sprinkler system in the gymnasium.

All of the 43 residents and three staff members were evacuated after a fire broke out in one of the rooms in the north wing, according to Attica fire Chief Ed O’Farrell. “I feel the staff took charge of the situation and collaborated well with the departments,” said Gustus, “The residents were evacuated outside, warm and secure within minutes.”

Fire sprinklers keep fire at university from spreading (Manchester, NH)

Fire sprinklers suppressed a fire which began under an aquarium in one of the offices at the University of Southern New Hampshire. Deputy Fire Chief Mark Pelletier said the sprinkler system activated in the office, which kept the flames from spreading to other areas of the building, including the college’s main computer server located across the hall. No injuries were reported.

Sprinkler system helped keep the fire in check at coffee shop (Homewood, IL)

A Homewood Dunkin’ Donuts is scheduled to be back up and running early this week after a boiler fire over the weekend. An automatic sprinkler system helped keep the fire in check before the firefighters were able to finish the job with extinguishers, Homewood Fire Lieutenant Bill Wright said. According to Wright, firefighters were able to pinpoint the blaze in a storage room.
