Restaurant fire kept in check by sprinkler system (Fairbanks, AK)

A fire that began at a restaurant early Thursday morning was contained thanks to the building’s fire sprinkler. The Fairbanks Fire Department was notified of a fire at 5:50 a.m., and when they arrived, they found that the fire was kept at the point of ignition thanks to the fire sprinkler system.

“The sprinkler system basically saved the day,” Fire Chief Ernie Misewicz said. “It kept the fire in check in the front portion of the dining room.”

The fire’s cause was from someone improperly disposing smoking materials in a flower pot in the front of the building. There were no injuries reported.

“Had the sprinkler system not activated, there would have been significant damage to the building,” Misewicz said.

Warehouse fire squelched thanks to sprinklers and fire crews (Oakland, CA)

A warehouse caught fire when a 23-cubic foot refrigerator inside of the building ignited early Thursday morning. The sprinkler system activated on the fire, and this quick action combined with the arriving firefighters response contained the fire within 20 minutes. There were no injuries. 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Fire caused by unattended candle suppressed by sprinkler system (El Mirage, AZ)

A West Valley business was saved by its sprinkler system after the building caught fire early Sunday morning. Fire crews from several cities responded the fire at Party Rental near Thunderbird and El Mirage roads. Firefighters saw smoke coming from the building but the fire had mostly been extinguished by the sprinklers when they arrived on scene.”These people will be able to occupy their business Monday morning,” El Mirage Fire Chief Howard Munding said. “If there was a fire without a sprinkler, these people would be out of business.”A burning candle was identified as the cause of the fire.

Sprinkler helps save apartment building from fire (Knoxville, TN)

Firefighters responded to a fire at an apartment complex during the early hours of Saturday morning. After seeing flames outside of a sixth floor apartment unit, they came up to extinguish the blaze. They were met with smoke, with the fire sprinkler having put out the majority of the fire. No injuries were reported, and the fire’s cause remains under investigation.

Sprinkler system saves 28 puppies from fire set by pet store owner (Las Vegas, NV)

Fire officials say a Las Vegas pet store owner is accused of setting her business ablaze, but all 28 puppies inside have been rescued.  Clark County Fire Department spokesman John Steinbeck says 35-year-old Gloria Lee was booked into the county jail on suspicion of first-degree arson after the fire early Monday morning at the Prince and Princess Puppy Boutique.  Steinbeck says in a statement issued early Saturday that the 28 puppies could have died if the sprinkler system hadn’t activated and firefighters hadn’t quickly extinguished the flames.  No people were injured.  County animal control officers took possession of the dogs, and they’re currently being housed at a local animal shelter.

Fire sprinkler system contains fire at bowling alley (Shrewsbury, MA)

A small fire started this morning in a storage closet at AMF Town & Country Lanes. The building’s sprinkler system contained the flames to that area, said Shrewsbury Fire Captain Seth Colby.  The fire started when no one was in the building and was accidental, but the exact cause is under investigation, Shrewsbury Fire Captain Seth Colby said.

Sprinklers contain fire at restaurant (Gainesville, GA)

Gainesville firefighters responded to a fire at a restaurant a little before 6 a.m. on Friday, January 17. The fire crews broke into the building and found that four sprinkler heads had activated and kept the fire in check. After the crews put out the remaining flames, Fire Marshal Chad Payne reported that a faulty condensation line pump on a refrigeration unit had started the fire. There were no injuries reported.
