Sprinkler system saves 28 puppies from fire set by pet store owner (Las Vegas, NV)

Fire officials say a Las Vegas pet store owner is accused of setting her business ablaze, but all 28 puppies inside have been rescued.  Clark County Fire Department spokesman John Steinbeck says 35-year-old Gloria Lee was booked into the county jail on suspicion of first-degree arson after the fire early Monday morning at the Prince and Princess Puppy Boutique.  Steinbeck says in a statement issued early Saturday that the 28 puppies could have died if the sprinkler system hadn’t activated and firefighters hadn’t quickly extinguished the flames.  No people were injured.  County animal control officers took possession of the dogs, and they’re currently being housed at a local animal shelter.

Fire sprinkler system contains fire at bowling alley (Shrewsbury, MA)

A small fire started this morning in a storage closet at AMF Town & Country Lanes. The building’s sprinkler system contained the flames to that area, said Shrewsbury Fire Captain Seth Colby.  The fire started when no one was in the building and was accidental, but the exact cause is under investigation, Shrewsbury Fire Captain Seth Colby said.

Sprinklers contain fire at restaurant (Gainesville, GA)

Gainesville firefighters responded to a fire at a restaurant a little before 6 a.m. on Friday, January 17. The fire crews broke into the building and found that four sprinkler heads had activated and kept the fire in check. After the crews put out the remaining flames, Fire Marshal Chad Payne reported that a faulty condensation line pump on a refrigeration unit had started the fire. There were no injuries reported.

Fire sprinkler puts out fire at hotel (Rocky Mount, NC)

Fire sprinklers stopped an early morning fire from spreading at a Doubletree Hotel on Wednesday, January 15. One of the hotel’s guest smelled smoke at about 6 a.m. and pulled the a fire alarm. When fire crews arrived, they found a small amount of smoke coming from a fourth floor room that was unoccupied. In response to the heat from the fire, the room’s fire sprinklers had activated, which kept the fire from spreading. Investigators believe the fire began because of an electrical malfunction near the heating unit in the fourth floor room. No one was injured in the incident.

Sprinklers squelch hotel clubhouse fire (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL)

Investigators are still looking into the cause of a fire which began in a hotel clubhouse on Wednesday afternoon. Fire crews arrived to the clubhouse after receiving reports of a fire; upon entering the building, they found no fire or smoke thanks to the building’s fire sprinklers, which put out the flames prior to their arrival. There were no injuries reported.

Casino fire squelched by fire sprinklers (Santa Maria, CA)

A fire which began in the cardboard baler room at the Chumash Casino and Resort on Saturday morning brought fire crews to put out the blaze. When the firefighters arrived, they found that the casino’s fire sprinkler system had activated in the cardboard baler room and had completely put the fire out. There were no injuries and only minor damage was reported.

Fire sprinklers help to contain early morning restaurant fire (Maricopa, AZ)

An assistant manager at the local Native New Yorker said she hopes the restaurant will be open later Friday after firefighters put out an early morning fire in the business’ kitchen area.  Fire investigators said the fire likely was caused by a warming pan and that flames were fed by grease on the pan. The Maricopa Fire Department was initially alerted to the fire after sprinklers were activated, according to an agency press release. No injuries were reported to citizens or fire personnel. The fire suppression and alert system performed as designed and provides an example of the effectiveness of properly installed and maintained sprinkler systems.
