Sprinkler saves lives and property in apartment fire (Neath, UK)

A fire began in a flat in the United Kingdom on Thursday, March 20. It broke out in the kitchen, and it was suppressed by the sprinkler system that had been installed in the building weeks earlier. The Neath Port Talbot Community Safety Department, Coastal Housing, and NPT Social Services had determined in February that the tenant of the flat was sufficiently at risk and had the fire sprinkler installed. Following the extinguishing of the fire by the sprinkler system, the man was found on the premises and was evacuated safely. No injuries were reported.

Sprinkler system limits damage at country club fire (Hoover, AL)

A little after 9:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a fire at a country club. The flames, which started on the loading dock of the club, traveled into the building’s attic, where the fire sprinklers activated and contained the fire .

“The fire was under control within 15 minutes,” Hoover Fire Department Executive Director Rusty Lowe said.

The cause of the fire appears to be accidental. This is not the first fire that the clubhouse has suffered, however; in 2007, the same country club was destroyed in a fire.

“When the clubhouse was rebuilt, it was built to current code that required the modernized fire suppression system,” Lowe said. “Had it not been for the sprinklers the fire might have spread extensively throughout the attic.”

No injuries were reported.

Fire sprinklers save property and lives from arson fire (Harrisburg, PA)

Investigators are reporting that a fire that began in a vacant apartment was intentionally set on Thursday morning. Fire Chief Brian Enterline said that the fire sprinkler system had not only prevented significant property loss, but possibly saved several lives. At the time of the fire, firefighters were already suppressing a fire at another location; two city units as well as surrounding fire companies were sent out to cover the apartment fire. Enterline also said that had it not been for the fire sprinklers, the fire would have spread throughout the apartment before it would have been discovered. No injuries were reported in the incident.
