Sprinklers prove worth in restaurant fire (Portsmouth, NH)

According to fire crews, a fire that started in the Chinese restaurant Water Margin could have been much worse had fire sprinklers not been present. Further praising the sprinkler system, Incident commander Glenn Bowyer said, “What was good was the sprinklers, they helped control the fire and minimized damage.” The building was evacuated during the fire, and no injuries were reported.

A Homewood Dunkin’ Donuts is scheduled to be back up and running early this week after a boiler fire over the weekend. According to Wright, firefighters were able to pinpoint the blaze in a storage room.

Sprinklers contain electrical fire (Port Chester, NY)

Port Chester firefighters were able to find and put out a building’s electrical fire thanks in part to the business’ fire sprinkler system. About 50 firefighters came to put out the fire and were having a difficult time finding the source of the smoke when they spotted the water which had helped dampen the blaze. They then knocked down the remaining flames. No injuries were reported.

Lumberyard Arts Center damage limited thanks to fire sprinklers (Baldwin City, KS)

A fire that started at around 4:30 in the morning on Sunday morning could have been devastating to the collection of art as well as the newly renovated Lumberyard Arts Center. The Center’s fire sprinkler helped suppress and contain the blaze.

“Fire protection measures built into the Lumberyard Arts Center proved their worth in the fire,” said Sandy Cardens, Lumberyard Arts Center board secretary and gallery coordinator. “Damage from the fire was limited to the non-renovated north section of the building, which is to be a future theater.”

“The (Douglas County) fire marshal said the sprinkler system paid for itself last night,” she said.

No injuries were reported from the fire.
