Sprinkler system helped keep the fire in check at coffee shop (Homewood, IL)

A Homewood Dunkin’ Donuts is scheduled to be back up and running early this week after a boiler fire over the weekend. An automatic sprinkler system helped keep the fire in check before the firefighters were able to finish the job with extinguishers, Homewood Fire Lieutenant Bill Wright said. According to Wright, firefighters were able to pinpoint the blaze in a storage room.

Sprinklers contain electrical fire (Port Chester, NY)

Port Chester firefighters were able to find and put out a building’s electrical fire thanks in part to the business’ fire sprinkler system. About 50 firefighters came to put out the fire and were having a difficult time finding the source of the smoke when they spotted the water which had helped dampen the blaze. They then knocked down the remaining flames. No injuries were reported.

Lumberyard Arts Center damage limited thanks to fire sprinklers (Baldwin City, KS)

A fire that started at around 4:30 in the morning on Sunday morning could have been devastating to the collection of art as well as the newly renovated Lumberyard Arts Center. The Center’s fire sprinkler helped suppress and contain the blaze.

“Fire protection measures built into the Lumberyard Arts Center proved their worth in the fire,” said Sandy Cardens, Lumberyard Arts Center board secretary and gallery coordinator. “Damage from the fire was limited to the non-renovated north section of the building, which is to be a future theater.”

“The (Douglas County) fire marshal said the sprinkler system paid for itself last night,” she said.

No injuries were reported from the fire.

Sprinkler system puts out fire in high school wood shop (Broadview Heights, OH)

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School will be closed Friday after a fire erupted in a wood shop class Thursday, according to the high school’s website.  Broadview Heights Fire Chief Jeffrey Hajek said that the fire broke out about 4:15 p.m.  The sprinkler system was activated and put out the fire.  No one was injured.

Apartment balcony fire extinguished by sprinkler (Rapid City, SD)

A single sprinkler extinguished a balcony fire at the Stoney Creek Apartments in Rapid City on Wednesday evening.  The fire originated in or around a small trash receptacle on the balcony.  It began to spread up the exterior siding until the sprinkler activated and put the fire out.

Lieutenant Brent Long with Rapid City Fire Department said the presence of the sprinkler system proved to be invaluable with its quick extinguishment of the fire. The 1 sprinkler head that activated saved what could have turned in a great deal of damage to the property, and potential for having to relocate the tenants.

Fire sprinkler system saves wood chip storage building (Post Falls, ID)

Fire crews were dispatched just after 7:00 a.m. to a structure fire in a wood chip storage building at Potlatch Corp. The fire was caused by a mechanical failure of a piece of equipment; this caused wood chips and saw dust to catch fire.  Officials say the fire sprinkler system kept the fire small until the trained on site fire crew was able to put water on it.
