Single sprinkler extinguishes grease fire (Village of Oak Creek, AZ)

Shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday, Sedona Fire District crewswere called … for a reported structure fire in a multi-unit apartmentbuilding. The first fire crews found the fire was extinguished by a single firesprinkler head that activated in the kitchen of a one-bedroom apartment.  “The fire damage would also have beensignificantly worse if not for the sprinklers,” according to SFD FireMarshal Gary J. Johnson.

Sprinklers successful in controlling newspaper press room fire (Youngstown, OH)

An air-handling unit in The Vindicator’s press room caught fire shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
The Youngstown Fire Department responded within minutes, but the majority of the fire had already been extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system, said Youngstown Fire Chief John O’Neill.
The fire was contained to a small area of the press room. No one was injured, and nearly all company operations returned to normal after an interruption of about an hour.

“The good things are no one was injured, we will print on time and the alarm and sprinkler systems worked as planned. The Youngstown Fire Department was a huge help and we heartily thank them,” said Mark A. Brown, general manager.

Garbage chute fire extinguished by sprinkler system (Windsor, ON)

Windsor firefighters were kept busy across the city after two unrelated fires broke out around the same time after 11pm, Monday evening …

In the second incident, firefighters were called to 810 Ouellette for reports of smoke in the building.
Firefighters investigated smoke in the building’s garbage chute and it appears as though the fire was successfully extinguished by a sprinkler.

Sprinkler system aids firefighters at Golden Nugget Casino (Atlantic City, NJ)

A fire at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City closed the sauna Monday evening.  Firefighters were called to the casino about 5:30 p.m. for a reported fire and activated sprinkler, Chief Dennis Brooks said.
 
“The fire doesn’t appear to be suspicious,” Brooks said.  Preliminarily, it looks like an electrical fire, but is still under investigation, he said.
