The fire was reported at 10:45 p.m. at 255 S. Hill St., said the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Margaret Stewart.
It was in an eighth-story apartment and was held in check by sprinklers, Stewart said.
“While a few residents self-evacuated, the rest of the building is sheltering in place,” she said. “There is only light smoke in the hallway.”
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters remained at the scene to remove water from the sprinkler activation, she said.
A hotel resident fell asleep after cooking in their room early Monday morning.
The Houston Fire Department arrived near Highway 290 and Pinemont Drive around 1:15 a.m. on Houston’s Northwest side.
Authorities arrived to the hotel and found a fire with heavy smoke on the third floor. The Houston Fire Department evacuated the entire hotel and were able to put the fire out with no injuries reported.
The Houston Fire Department says that after investigating, they found out that a resident was cooking in their room and fell asleep. That’s when the food and stove caught fire and the hotel sprinkler system went off. The sprinklers had flooded all three floors and due to the damage, the hotel was having to find other places for the residents to stay.
Around 11:37 p.m., sprinklers went off inside a building at 1380 Redwood Way, notifying the building’s monitoring system, which called fire dispatchers, said Jessica Power, fire marshal for the Petaluma Fire Department.
Within five minutes, Petaluma Fire Department crews arrived and found heavy black smoke coming from the single-story building’s roll up door and roof, according to a media release.
Three engines from Rancho Adobe Fire District also responded.
No one was inside when the fire occurred and there were no injuries, Powers said.
The building showed only minor damage, thanks to the sprinkler system that helped control the flames until firefighters arrived, Powers said. She said the estimated cost of damage was unknown Tuesday afternoon.
The cause is still being investigated, she said.
“This incident is a opportunity to remind our citizens that having working fire alarms, carbon dioxide alarms, and sprinkler systems can be the difference in not only damage to a structure, but also in the amount of time a person, family, or coworkers have to escape in an emergency,” the department said in the release.
A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS photographer saw several units at the scene and the building’s sprinkler system running.
Authorities say St. Louis Park firefighters were called to the location at around 4:15 a.m. and found multiple sources of fire inside. Firefighters extinguished the flames, which the sprinklers kept at bay, and no injuries were reported.
The fitness center, located at 3555 Highway 100, will be closed for the day.
The city says no arrests were made but the fire is being investigated as arson.

Personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department were dispatched at approximately 4:30 a.m. to a report of a ringing fire alarm system on the 900 block of Embarcadero Del Mar, fire Capt. Scott Safechuck said.
They found a fire-suppression sprinkler head had been activated and put out the blaze, Safechuck added.
Firefighters assisted with removal of water from the business, which had minor damage, he said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation, Safechuck said.
There were no reports of injuries.
The fire was reported at about 3 a.m. in the Sullivan’s Gulch area near Northeast 25th Avenue and Multnomah Street, across from Interstate 84.
Portland Fire said the building’s sprinkler system put out most of the flames.
En route, they were advised that there was a water flow alarm.
When crews arrived, evacuation had already taken place.
Smoke conditions were encountered when entering Division 2 of the building. Crews made their way to the source of the fire and determined that there were 2 sprinkler heads activated.
Crews found some bins that had been damaged by fire and several others with water damage.
Fire was extinguished and water flow from sprinklers reduced.
Power was terminated to the area by Amazon and crews removed as much water as they could.
No injuries reported.
Firefighters were sent to the building around 2:25 a.m. An employee was unable to find the source of the fire, but firefighters reportedly found it in a laundry storage area where bags of bio-hazard laundry were stored overhead.
WFFD officials said the fire was ignited by a chemical reaction from rags in the laundry basket that was covered in grease and oil. Officials have declared the fire was unintentional. The sprinkler system reportedly contained the fire, but did not put it out.
Firefighters extinguished the fire after about 45 minutes, according to WFFD officials.
There were no injuries reported on the scene. The Alsco Linens building did not sustain any obvious fire damage, but a large amount of the linens in the basket and bags were damaged.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the blaze and extent of damage at Automotive Keys Group, 633 Hickory Hill Drive, is being investigated.
The Lincolnshire Riverwoods Fire Protection District was dispatched to the business at 4:24 a.m. through an automatic fire alarm.
First-arriving emergency crews encountered heavy smoke throughout the large warehouse, according to Battalion Chief Steve McCaughey.
The call was upgraded to a working fire scenario, which brought firefighters from the Deerfield, Countryside, Lake Zurich and Long Grove fire protection districts and Buffalo Grove, Lake Forest, Wheeling and Libertyville municipal fire departments.
An automatic sprinkler system was activated before firefighters arrived, keeping the blaze from growing before it could be completely extinguished, McCaughey said. Nobody was at the facility when the alarm was sounded, he added.
McCaughey said extensive smoke hampered crews and a special mobile ventilation unit was used to clear the warehouse and office spaces.

The 2nd alarm fire at 2611 N. Lincoln Ave. had moderate smoke and fire visible near a rooftop chiller unit located near the center of the building.
The facility operates 24/7. Employees were already evacuating when crews arrived.
The ladder truck was used to get access to the roof from outside.
The fire was contained to a 20’ x 20’ roof area around a chiller unit located above a mechanical and maintenance room.
There was minimal smoke inside the structure.
An interior building sprinkler head had also been activated.
The fire was extinguished, and the incident brought under control within an hour with no injuries reported.
The Urbana Fire Department was assisted by Champaign Fire Department, Carle Arrow Ambulance, and Ameren Electric.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Complete damage estimates are undetermined due to operational downtime and possible equipment damage.
