Watsonville, CA – Sprinkler activates to help control possible arson fire at auto body shop

Authorities investigated a small, Sunday night fire in the doorway on the first block of East Lake Avenue as an arson, Watsonville fire and police officials said.

About 10:30 p.m., police received a report of a structure fire at Auto Tech Auto Body at 18 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville police Sgt. David Rodriguez said. Officers responded to the scene to confirm the fire and firefighters arrived shortly after to extinguish it.

A door to the business was on fire but firefighters doused it within 5 minutes, Watsonville fire Capt. Rick Pettigrew said. Though there was no fire damage inside the building, a sprinkler system was set off by the heat.  Initial investigations showed the fire started at the door, leading investigators to believe someone started the fire.

Vernon, BC, Canada – Suspicious overnight fire at restaurant extinguished by sprinkler system

Police and the Vernon Fire Department are looking into the cause of a suspicious fire at the New Delhi Restaurant in Vernon.  Deputy fire chief Lawrie Skolrood says the fire started inside the building sometime before 3:15 a.m. when the building’s sprinkler system went off and triggered an alarm.

Firefighters forced their way into the building by busting open the front doors, but by the time they got there, the fire was already out.  “The sprinklers did actually put out the fire. It’s lucky they were up and working for sure,” Skolrood says.

Media, PA – Sprinkler extinguishes fire at senior assisted living center

Residents of one building at Granite Farms Estates were evacuated Sunday night after a wall heater caught fire. Firefighters were dispatched at 10 p.m. for a fire on the third floor of A Building, according to Fire Marshal Alan Mancill. The responding firefighters found smoke on the third floor and the residents of were evacuated.  The sprinkler system in the building extinguished the fire. The fire was placed under control in about five minutes. There were no reported injuries.

Hempfield, PA – Sprinkler system activates, assists firefighters in fire at Olive Garden restaurant

The Olive Garden Italian restaurant along Route 30 in Hempfield was damaged by a kitchen fire late Wednesday night that spewed smoke through the building, emergency responders said.

The fire, which was reported at 11:36 p.m., started in the kitchen, went up a kitchen wall and spread into the ceiling, Bovard fire Chief Greg Saunders said.

The first responders were able to knock it down quickly, Saunders said. The building’s sprinkler system also sprayed water on the fire.

Huntington, WV – Sprinkler system helps avert potential disaster at senior high-rise building

The fire broke out on Sunday night at Highlawn Place, a senior affordable housing building.  Huntington Fire Chief Carl Eastham tells WSAZ the building was partially evacuated after a mattress caught fire in the trash room on the 7th floor about 9:45 p.m.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, the sprinkler system had pretty much put out the fire.  No one was injured and the displaced residents should be able to move back in later Monday.

The Woodlands, TX – Overnight hotel fire controlled by sprinkler system

One woman has a fast-acting sprinkler system to thank for saving her after fire broke out at the Extended Stay America in south Montgomery County.  South Montgomery County firefighters say paramedics found the woman in bed after a fire broke out just after 3am. They were called out there after an automatic alarm was triggered.

When they pulled up, they found a small fire in a third floor room with a woman sleeping inside. They were quickly able to put out that fire with help from the sprinkler system.  Firefighters tell Eyewitness News while they’re still working on determining a cause, they did find discarded cigarettes near the bed where the fire started.

Poca, WV – Suspicious fire at warehouse kept under control by sprinkler system

The fire broke out at about 1:30 a.m. at a warehouse that houses Lewis Goetz & Co. Inc., Tyler Mountain Water and Ashley Furniture Warehouse. The fire was contained to Lewis Goetz & Co. Inc., a company that manufactures hydraulic hoses for industrial use.

None of the other businesses in the commercial building were damaged, but Tyler Mountain Water had to temporarily shut down operations due to the amount of smoke in the area. The building’s sprinkler and HVAC system helped keep the fire from spreading.

Poca fire officials aren’t sure what caused the fire but said they believe it’s suspicious.

Augusta, GA – Sprinkler system assists firefighters in overnight fire at Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant

The fire at Buffalo Wild Wings on Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway is now out according to fire crews on scene.  A delivery man dropping off food discovered the building filled with smoke and called the fire department around 3:45 a.m., fire officials on scene told News 12.

No one was hurt, but there is water and smoke damage. The sprinkler system was activated before the fire department got on scene, officials said.  Lt. Neal Brown says they believe the fire is electrical.

Aiken, SC – Fire at historic Hotel Aiken extinguished by sprinkler system

The Aiken Department of Public Safety responded to Hotel Aiken on Richland Avenue at about 4:50 a.m. Sunday after a fire alarm was activated by the business’ sprinkler system, according to the report.

No smoke or fire was visible upon arrival. The fire occurred in a room on the third floor and was extinguished by the sprinkler system, according to Public Safety Lt. Jake Mahoney.

The fire was started by a candle left burning on a shelf near some towels, according to the report.  No injuries were reported
