AFD reported in a Facebook post on Saturday more details about the fire. The department said the fire was caused by people who had lit combustibles to keep warm, and was located in the floor between the 2nd and 3rd floor. The sprinkler system cut on and kept it in that area.
Crews did not report any injuries.
A West End apartment building was evacuated Thursday after a fire started on the 12th floor.
Firefighters were called to the building on West 9th Street and Central Avenue at about 11 a.m.
They said the sprinkler system took care of most of the fire. They did have the ventilate the floor to get out the smoke.
First: An automatic sprinkler had already put out the kitchen fire.
Second: The fire had most likely started when one of the family’s German shepherds “counter-surfed,” accidentally turning on a stove burner underneath a bag of groceries, Capt. Steve Becker said.
This wasn’t an unprecedented cause, Becker said. “Dogs counter-surfing have caused more than one fire,” he said.
The fire, reported at 8:40 a.m., was located in a residence on the D Street Alley.
Because the home was equipped with automatic sprinklers, the kitchen sustained minor damage, Becker said. No one was injured, he said.
Des Moines fire crews are investigating the cause of a fire at a laundromat Tuesday morning.
It happened at the Coin Laundry in the 2300 block of East University Avenue at about 9 a.m.
Fire crews told KCCI the sprinkler system did its job in suppressing the fire. They believe it may have started in a dryer vent.
There were no injuries reported in the fire. Traffic in one westbound lane of East University Avenue was closed so crews could work at the scene.
Upon arrival, personnel from Engine 6 reported discovering a light haze inside the building and were directed to the complex’s “aluminum sample shop” where automatic fire sprinklers heads had activated.
Due to the smoke conditions, Quint 4 and Med 1 were tasked with search and rescue and assisting employees out of the building.
“As a reminder to the general public, please treat all fire alarm activations as if there is a real fire. Please proceed to the nearest exit and reassemble with co-workers or family members in a preselected meeting spot,” the release advised.
The fire was brought under control in about an hour, RFD reported.
The fire was fought by 24 RFD firefighters and no additional help was needed to suppress the blaze, the release said. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported.
The fire was contained to an aluminum particle collection machine, according to a release. Damage is estimated to be at $35,000.
According to authorities, the call came in at about 8:45 a.m. and when fire crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the second floor of the building. Fortunately, the area that the fire was in was closed due to Thanksgiving.
Authorities said the hospital’s sprinkler system held the fire back until fire crews were able to extinguish the fire.
Rochester Hills Fire Department had help from fire crews from Waterford, Bloomfield Township, Troy, Oakland Township and Auburn Hills.
No one was injured during the fire.
The fire investigation will be handled by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
First arriving units reported a vehicle fire inside the first floor garage of building 7. The building’s sprinkler system had held the fire in check and firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire. Fire damage was confined to the garage with light smoke damage to the adjacent apartment. There were no reported injuries and Conroe Fire Investigators are working on the cause. A small fire broke out at a grocery store in central Fresno on Friday morning.
Firefighters say pieces of cardboard caught fire near the back of the Grocery Outlet on Blackstone and Effie. The flames then spread to inside the store.
A sprinkler-system inside the store kept the fire from growing. Fire crews were able to put the flames out quickly.
Damage to the store was minimal; the fire mostly burned cardboard in a storage section.
Firefighters are working to repair some of the water damage left behind by the sprinklers.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Acting Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Carl Otsuka said four fire sprinkler heads activated to extinguish and prevent a further spread of the fire.
No injuries were reported.
HFD said tonight that the cause of the fire is incendiary and turned over the case to the Honolulu Police Department for further investigation. Damage was estimated at $25,000 to the structure and $75,000 to the contents.
Eight units with 24 firefighters responded to the business at the Kapolei Commons shopping center, 4450 Kapolei Parkway just after 11:50 a.m.
When the first unit arrived, firefighters observed items on fire.
In addition to the sprinkler system, firefighters used a fire extinguisher and brought the flames under control at about noon. The fire was extinguished a few minutes later.
Tamara, who declined to give her last name, said she was in the store at about 11:45 a.m. when she smelled smoke and then saw women’s clothing on fire.
Tamara headed to the front of the store to alert employees when she observed a large fire at the men’s clothing rack in another section of the store.
One of the employees used a fire extinguisher in an attempt to extinguish the blaze but “the flames were growing so fast,” she said. “We had to evacuate.”
Tamara called 911.
A kitchen fire was extinguished early Sunday by the Spokane County Fire Department.
The fire was reported on E 55 Ave. as residents could see smoke coming out of the second floor of the building. The fire department said that the situation could have been much worse, as a sprinkler system installed in the building was able to control the fire until the authorities arrived.
