After a fire broke out on the balcony of a second floor apartment, its fire sprinkler system quickly extinguished the flames. No injuries occurred, and no one was displaced as a result of the incident.

Rolls of paper reportedly caught fire. Quick response by the overhead sprinkler system, as well as city firefighters, kept the blaze and the damage to a minimum. No injuries were reported.

Sprinklers make the difference in fire at paper-shredding and recycling company (Spokane, WA)

An employee of DB Secure Shred called 911 and the alarm company reported the fire at just after 7 p.m. The worker attempted to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. The sprinkler system kept the fire under control. Fire crews then used hoses to fight the remain fire; equipment was used to move paper around to search for embers.

“If the sprinklers had not contained the fire, there were enough combustibles to have taken off and caused a lot of damage in the building,” said Deputy Fire Chief Bill Flora.

Kids Zone on the campus of Church in the Now was evacuated Wednesday evening after a fire started in the back of a refrigerator. Rockdale County Fire and Rescue Public Information Officer Sharon Webb said the fire activated the building’s sprinkler system which extinguished the fire.

Webb said none of the occupants was injured.

The building’s sprinkler system kept the fire in check before the fire department arrived, allowing only minor damage that was mostly confined to the stove itself. The fire was caused by burning grease on the stove. The restaurant is one occupant of the building, a two-story structure that has several tenants. The fire did not spread to any other tenants.

Investigators say the fire was caused when a stove burner was left on high and items near the stove caught fire. The microwave above the stove was melting and kitchen cabinets were burning when a single sprinkler head activated and put out the fire.

A smoke alarm in the apartment activated, but it was not until the sprinkler head went off that other alarms in the complex went off and the fire department was notified. No injuries.
