Chicago, IL – (NO MEDIA COVERAGE) High-rise condominium fire controlled by sprinklers

*** No Media Coverage – Contractor Reported ***   – A grease fire on an electric stove in an interior one-bedroom condo on the 23rd floor started on Saturday evening (12/20/14).  The owner attempted to extinguish it with a towel, but it didn’t work.  A sprinkler operated and controlled the fire. The building is located at 1629 S Prairie in downtown Chicago ( Adler Place, formerly called 1600 Museum Park)

Fort Wayne, IN – Sprinkler system douses fire at truck repair business

A fire Friday evening at a large truck repair business kept the Fort Wayne Fire Department busy. The fire department got an alarm about 7:15 p.m. at Power Train HD America at 3415 Conestoga Drive in northwest Fort Wayne and arrived to find smoke coming from the building.

Firefighters forced open an entry door and also opened an overhead bay door to ventilate smoke from throughout the building, according to the fire department. A large dump truck was on fire in a service bay, which set off the alarm.

The business’ sprinkler system helped keep the fire contained, but it still took firefighters 35 minutes to get the fire under control, the department said. Fuel from the truck was contained with absorbent equipment. The cause of the fire remained under investigation Friday night. No injuries were reported.

San Leandro, CA – Sprinkler contains fire at manufacturer of shielding materials

The fire was reported around 7:45 p.m. at Nelco, a lead shielding manufacturer at 1840 Williams St., according to the Alameda County Fire Department.

Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the building and called a second alarm. The fire was contained within 30 to 40 minutes, and fire damage was limited to the area of origin, due to operation of a sprinkler head.

Firefighters had difficulty entering the building due to security modifications.  No injuries were reported.

Anderson, SC – Ductwork fire at manufacturing plant contained by sprinkler system

Officials responded to a fire at a new plant in Anderson County on Wednesday night. The plant’s state-of-the-art sprinkler system contained the fire to the ducts and fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze.

According to dispatchers, several fire departments were on the scene at First Quality Tissue on Masters Boulevard. First Quality produces ultra-premium towel and bath tissue products. Firefighters said they received the call about the flames at 7:30 p.m. and when they arrived on scene, smoke was coming out of the top of the building. Employees working in the building were evacuated. After the fire was out, fire crews allowed First Quality employees to return to the building. Officials said no one was injured in the fire.

Barrhaven, ON, Canada – Fire at irish pub extinguished with help from sprinkler system

A fire at the yet-to-open Heart & Crown in Barrhaven on the evening of Dec. 5, was doused by the building’s sprinkler system and mainly extinguished by the time firefighters arrived, the Ottawa fire department said.  Oily rags that were not discarded properly self combusted, sparking the fire just after 7 p.m., according to the fire department.

Forestdale, MA – Sprinkler system puts out condominium fire

The Sandwich Fire Chief William Carrico is stressing the importance of residential sprinkler systems after a condominium was saved last night.  Crews arrived at the condo at 14 Brightside Lane in Forestdale just after 7:30 p.m. to find the fire had already been put out. The fire which started in the kitchen was confined to the stove top and was extinguished by the sprinkler system.  Carrico said if it were not for the sprinkler system, there would have been significant fire and smoke damage.

Chico, CA – Sprinklers contain fire at senior adult care facility

A Chico police officer rescued an elderly woman from her smoke-filled room Friday after a fire broke out at a senior adult care facility. Officer Carlos Jauregui was the first to arrive to The Courtyard at Little Chico Creek, 1777 Humboldt Road, where a small fire was sending thick, black smoke billowing into the room.

A facility employee called 911 just before 8:40 a.m. to report the incident, Chico interim fire chief Shane Lauderdale said. The small fire was contained by the facility’s sprinkler system, but several residents at the facility had to be evacuated.

Apartment fire extinguished by sprinkler system (Charleston, MD)

A fire broke out at an apartment in the Alta Chesapeake Ridge community Saturday night.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal Office is investigating the blaze, which occurred in a ground floor unit in building 206 and was reported around 7:50 p.m. on Saturday. Witnesses at the scene reported seeing flames shooting from an exterior wall.

The residential sprinkler system extinguished the blaze by the time firefighters arrived, according to officials.

Sprinkler system prevents major damage at vision center (Washington, MO)

A sprinkler system prevented extensive damage following a Sunday evening fire. Washington Fire Crews responded to a fire alarm at Advanced Sight Center in the office building at 1351 Jefferson just after 7 p.m. Sunday evening. Assistant Fire Chief Mark Skornia said the fire could have been a lot worse had the sprinkler system not worked to perfection. Skornia said when crews arrived on the scene they noticed heavy smoke inside the building. Crews made entry and saw fire in the ceiling.

Fortunately for the fire crews, the sprinkler system had knocked down much of the fire. Skornia said the fire was smoldering and Washington crews were able to quickly extinguish the problem. Crews then shut down the sprinkler system to prevent further water damage. Once everything was under control, Franklin County Arson Investigator Jim Schuhmacher investigated the situation. Skornia said Schuhmacher found nothing suspicious about the fire. Skornia said it’s believed the fire started in the wiring of a fan. The fan was in an equipment closest, malfunctioned, and caught fire. There were no injuries reported.
