Department store fire contained by sprinkler system (Bakersfield, CA)

A department store had a fire break out in an office early Wednesday morning, and the Bakersfield Fire Department responded to the incident. The fire was contained by the building’s fire sprinkler system when crews arrived, and no one was hurt in the incident. The cause of the fire appears to be electrical.

Sprinklers limit damage at unoccupied restaurant (San Diego, CA)

When a fire broke out in a restaurant while it was closed, the building’s fire sprinkler kicked in to squelch the fire. According to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Lee Swanson, the sprinklers had activated prior to the SDFRD’s arrival.

“So when we got there, there was no active fire,” he said.

There were no injuries, and the exact cause of the fire is under investigation.

Sprinkler keeps fire from spreading at supermarket (Redding, CA)

A fire which began in the dock area of a supermarket early Sunday morning activated the store’s sprinkler system. The fire was contained by the sprinkler until fire crews arrived.

Firefighters at the scene said, “The properly maintained and functioning fire sprinkler system prevented a major fire and large loss to property.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but initial reports show that it was caused by humans. There were no injuries reported.

Sprinklers help extinguish fire at fast food restaurant (Delray Beach, CA)

An early morning fire at a Burger King restaurant is under investigation. The blaze, which began in one of the restaurant’s deep fryers, had been largely extinguished by the building’s fire sprinkler system. There were no reported injuries in the incident.

Sprinklers assist firefighters in apartment fire (San Luis Obispo, CA)

A fire which broke out in an apartment at around 3:40 a.m. on Monday, January 20, filled an apartment with smoke and activated the unit’s fire sprinkler system. Firefighters were able to eliminate the fire by 4:00 a.m.

“Without the sprinkler system, the fire could have gotten a lot bigger,” said acting Battalion Chief Mike King.

Sprinklers prove worth in house fire (Antioch, CA)

A two-story home caught fire on Tuesday night following what investigator’s believe was a spark near the home’s fuse box. Fire crews were able to put the fire out within minutes.

“What’s fortunate is that it was a brand new home, and it contained a sprinkler system,” fire Inspector Steve Aubert of the Contra Costa Fire Protection District. “That kept the fire to its point of origin. The damage was very, very minimal.”

No one was injured in the incident, and the exact cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire sprinklers minimize damage at Ace Hardware (Piedmont, CA)

When a fire began in the storage room of an Ace Hardware just after four in the morning on Sunday, January  6, the fire sprinkler system in that back room activated, minimizing the potential damage from the fire. Investigator’s believe the fire began due to an electrical malfunction, and no one was injured in the incident. The store reopened on Monday, January 7.

Sprinkler keeps fire from spreading at strip mall (San Jose, CA)

On January 2 at 2:15 p.m. firefighters arrived to put out the remaining fire at a strip mall. The firefighters report that they were first alerted to the fire when the automatic fire sprinkler water flow alarm was activated. The fire sprinkler kept the fire from spreading, preventing damage to other businesses in the strip mall. The cause of the fire is still under investigation; no one was injured in the incident.

Casino fire squelched by fire sprinklers (Santa Maria, CA)

A fire which began in the cardboard baler room at the Chumash Casino and Resort on Saturday morning brought fire crews to put out the blaze. When the firefighters arrived, they found that the casino’s fire sprinkler system had activated in the cardboard baler room and had completely put the fire out. There were no injuries and only minor damage was reported.

Sprinkler system extinguishes fire at Montessori School (Fremont, CA)

Students and staff at a Fremont Montessori school were unharmed after an oven caught fire Thursday afternoon, fire officials said. Arriving crews learned that the fire was already extinguished by the sprinkler system installed above the oven and that the 60 students and staff fled the school safely, according to Fremont Fire Department spokesman Daniel Cardenas. The fire was contained to the oven. “The damage was very minimal,” Cardenas said. “Thanks to the sprinkler system and audible fire alarm, all occupants were able to evacuate in a timely manner having no injuries reported,” Cardenas added.
