Lower Merion Chief Fire Officer Charles McGarvey said the resident of the apartment had left a pot on the stove then gone out. The sprinkler activated and kept the fire in check until firefighters arrived.”I am convinced if  it had not been for those sprinklers, we’d still be there,”  McGarvey said Wednesday morning.

Firefighters with the Poudre Fire Authority said a fire sprinkler kept a fire contained inside a closet in a dorm room on the Colorado State University Campus. Damage from the fire was contained to linens and the closet.

Alachua County Fire Marshal Mark Smith said the fire was caused by a pot with grease that had been put on a range to cool.   The fire activated a sprinkler system, which kept the fire from causing more damage, Smith said.  The fire was contained to the kitchen area.  “If the sprinkler system hadn’t been installed, things would have been a lot worse,” Smith said.

Fire Inspector Rick Campos says the fire was caused by an improperly disposed of match. The bar was not open at the time. Campos says owner Ron Tegtmeier lit a candle in his office and threw the match away in the garbage can, which later started on fire.Campos says the fire was contained to the office because Uncle Ron’s had a sprinkler system installed.

A piece of metal slipped into a paper processor, creating friction and igniting a small fire, Yakima Battalion Chief Mitch Cole said.The fire set off the sprinkler system in the building, which was evacuated. Fewer than 10 workers were in the building at the time, Cole said.

Students at Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School were evacuated briefly this morning following a fire in the school’s woodworking shop. The fire was reported at 10 a.m., and was soon extinguished by the school sprinkler system. Students were evacuated as a precaution, but returned to class within the hour.

No injuries were reported.
