Boone, NC – Sprinkler system extinguishes electrical fire at restaurant

This past Saturday, June 24th, at 4:00am Station 2 was alerted to an automatic fire alarm activation on Watauga Village Drive. Engine 6 arrived to find the sprinkler system activated and smoke coming from a restaurant at the end of the building. Capt. Wilson immediately upgraded the incident to a working structure fire.

Crews deployed hose and forced entry into the building. Upon entry, it was found that the sprinkler system had put out a small fire in the kitchen.

Upon investigation, it was deemed to be an electrical fire that had spread to nearby combustible materials.

This incident highlights the importance of sprinkler systems in reducing fire growth and saving lives!

Madison, WI – Sprinkler system extinguishes fire at apartment complex

A sprinkler system put out a fire at a Madison apartment building. 

Fire officials say crews were called to the 600 block of Sand Pearl Lane overnight Wednesday.

There was haze in one unit and smoke coming from a vent outside the deck.

Firefighters found the fire in the garbage area, which was completely controlled by an automatic fire sprinkler.

Ladder 2 was able to finish the job with their own water can extinguisher. The crew rolled the dumpster outside and Engine 9 filled it with water so the fire could not reignite.

Officials say this is the eighth “sprinkler save” in Madison this year.

Automatic fire sprinklers are shown to be highly effective in detecting a fire quickly and keeping it contained, if not extinguishing the fire altogether before firefighters arrive.

Lauderdale Lake, FL – Sprinkler system activated for fire at assisted living facility

Nearly 30 residents of an assisted living facility had to be evacuated after a fire broke out late Tuesday night.

About 50 firefighters arrived to St. Joseph Residence, off Northwest 30th Street, to help evacuate nearly 30 residents, a Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue (BSFR) news release said.

Just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters were met with smoke and a small fire in a room on the third floor of the facility. The flame was apparently caused by an unattended candle, but the sprinkler system inside the building kept it at bay.

The news release said most of the evacuated residents live on the second, third and fourth floors and were experiencing smoke and water damage from the sprinklers.

Only two residents needed medical transport, but their conditions were stable as of last night, per BSFR.

Santa Rosa, CA – Sprinkler system activated for fire in 14-story apartment building

An elderly woman and a small dog were rescued from a fire that broke out in a Santa Rosa high-rise apartment complex on Sunday morning, announced the Santa Rosa Fire Department.

The fire department first received reports of a fire via a water flow alarm in a 14-story apartment building on 801 Tupper St shortly after 4 a.m.

Firefighters responded to apartment 303 in the building and found that a sprinkler system activated and extinguished a fire from the kitchen. Firefighters found a woman on the ground of the living room floor and brought her to the first floor lobby. A small dog was also found in the apartment.

The woman was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

Fire officials deemed the apartment uninhabitable because of severe water and fire damage. Water damage also affected seven other apartments in the building, said firefighters.

Bismarck, ND – Sprinkler system activated for vehicle fire at truck shop; No injuries reported

The warehouse of a major Bismarck construction company was damaged in the early morning hours on Thursday.

Bismarck Fire officials say a truck in the shop of Northwest Contracting caught fire, triggering the building’s sprinkler system. Investigators say the system kept the fire under control by the time fire crews arrived around 3 a.m.

Firefighters found heavy smoke and heavy fire and smoke damage to the truck and ceiling in the shop on the 2800 block of Valley Forge Street.

No one was injured. Investigators believe the vehicle fire was accidental.

Alton, IL – Sprinkler system activated for fire in hotel room; No injuries reported

Firefighters were called to the Best Western Premier hotel at 3559 College Ave. in Alton at 9:18 p.m. Friday for a one-room fire.

According to authorities, a fire in the couch of an unoccupied room set off the hotel’s sprinkler system, which extinguished the blaze before firefighters arrived. The hotel immediately evacuated more than 100 people including those who had gathered for a function in a meeting room and a 10-year-old’s birthday pool party.

Tired guests wanting to sleep stood and sat outside of the hotel on all four sides. Firefighters scrambled to shut off the sprinkler system as water poured out of the room and into the first floor hallway.

The room was reported to have been heavily damaged. Fire department officials on Friday night said they had not determined how the fire started in the unoccupied room.

Firefighters made sure the fire was completely out before guests were allowed back in the hotel at 10:01 p.m.

The night wasn’t a complete disappointment, as firefighters let the birthday girl and her guests sit in a fire truck before they left.

The cause of the fire is under investigation; no injuries were reported.

Des Peres, MO – Sprinkler system contains laundry room fire at nursing facility; No injuries reported

Firefighters responded to an overnight fire at a nursing home in Des Peres.

The call came in around 1:35 a.m. for a fire at a nursing facility at the Sunrise Assisted Living Facility at 13460 Manchester Road. Firefighters say the fire was in the laundry room. Alarms notified the staff, and the sprinkler system kept the fire contained until crews arrived.

No injuries were reported and an evacuation was not necessary as the fire was contained to the laundry room.

Ottawa, ON, Canada – Sprinkler system extinguishes fire at commercial business; No injuries reported

It was a busy morning for Ottawa firefighters.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to two commercials fires within a one hour time period Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were first called to a commercial structure in the 3000 block of Strandherd Drive shortly before 1:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters were met by staff reporting an odour in the building, but nothing visible.

Firefighters located a door with smoke coming out around the back of the building and could hear several alarms going off.

A working fire was declared, though further investigation revealed the fire had been extinguished by the building sprinkler system.

The fire was under control by 2:25 a.m. and there were no injuries reported.

Woodbridge, IL – Sprinkler system contains kitchen fire at nursing home; No injuries reported

A sprinkler system helped keep a fire contained to a kitchen inside a Woodridge nursing home Tuesday night, authorities said.

The Lisle-Woodridge Fire District was notified of the blaze at about 9:15 p.m. after a fire alarm went off at the Cedarhurst senior living community along 75th Street. Responding firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions in the kitchen area.

Investigators are still trying to determine what sparked the fire, but the cause appears accidental, Deputy Fire Chief Steve Demas said Wednesday.

The building’s sprinkler system held the fire to the kitchen. Firefighters used a hose line to extinguish the blaze within a few minutes.

“We did have smoke spread, but it could have been a significant issue for us given the age demographic” of the building’s residents, Demas said.

Officials estimate the fire caused about $100,000 in damage, Demas said.

“Installed sprinkler systems are the most effective tool in our toolbox, as it relates to community risk reduction efforts,” Fire Chief Keith Krestan said in a statement.

Due to the smoke, residents were temporarily relocated to other areas of the building. No injuries were reported.

Crews from the Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District as well as the Westmont and Downers Grove fire departments assisted Lisle-Woodridge firefighters.

Petitcodiac, NB, Canada – Sprinkler system activated for early morning fire at school

Petitcodiac Regional School was closed Thursday due to an early morning fire that has been deemed suspicious.

Chief Craig Ramsay of the Petitcodiac Volunteer Fire Department said they were dispatched to the school around 4:20 a.m.

Light smoke was discovered in one of the rooms in the elementary wing of the K-12 school and the sprinkler system was activated.

The fire was contained to one room.

Ramsay said the fire is suspicious and is being investigated by the RCMP and the New Brunswick Office of the Fire Marshall.

School staff are evaluating the damage and the facility is closed.

“For how long, nobody knows,” said Ramsay.

A spokesperson for the Anglophone East School District said they are communicating with the police and fire officials.

More information will be provided to families when it becomes available to the district.

Petitcodiac Regional School is located in the heart of the village and is home to roughly 650 students.
