Great Falls, MT – Sprinkler system extinguishes fire at hotel; No injuries reported

Great Falls Fire Rescue responded to a small fire at the Sleep Inn & Mainstay Suites at 520 Country Club Boulevard on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.

Assistant Fire Chief Mike McIntosh said in a news release that GFFR received a water flow alarm at 9:25pm, and Engine 4 arrived at the scene at 9:32pm.

Firefighters saw people vacating the hotel, but they did not see any visible smoke or fire.

Firefighters discovered that a small fire occurred in room 318. The fire started in a nightstand located next to a bed, which was close to an exterior wall.

The fire had generated enough heat to activate the building’s fire sprinkler system, which functioned as designed, and quickly extinguished the fire.

The fire damage to the room was minimal, but there was significant water damage to the second and third floors.

Hotel management was able to move the majority of guests affected by the water from the sprinkler system to other rooms within the hotel; one guest was relocated to another hotel.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire, and restoration crews are are continuing to assess the damage.

The occupant of room 318 could not be located when GFFR and Great Falls police officers were at the scene of the fire. They have tried to contact the room occupant, but have not yet been successful.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. We will update you if we get more information.

North Attleboro, MA – Sprinkler system contains fire at apartment building; No injuries reported

The North Attleboro Fire Department extinguished a structure fire in an apartment building on Friday night.

Chief Christopher Coleman said that firefighters responded to an apartment building at 12 Moody St. around 11 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed coming from a second floor apartment, in which a small fire was being contained by the building’s sprinkler system.

Coleman said the department was able to extinguish the fire with mutual aid from fire departments from Attleboro, Plainville, Foxboro, Mansfield, Cumberland, Rhode Island, Mansfield MEMA and Providence Canteen.

The department said it searched and evacuated all 22 apartments in the building.

The chief added that no injuries were reported, and two people were displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the North Attleboro Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit.

Columbia, MO – Sprinkler system extinguishes fire at church; No injuries reported

The Columbia Fire Department responded to a fire at Missouri United Methodist Church early Monday morning.

According to a release from the fire department, at 4:03 am crews were called to Missouri United Methodist Church on Ninth Street where they found a large amount of smoke in the multipurpose area of the building and the automatic fire sprinkler system in the building was already activated.

Fire crews initiated search and rescue operations and began ventilation operations to clear the structure of smoke and ensured the fire was contained.

The fire sprinkler system fully extinguished the fire and no injuries were reported.

Columbia fire marshals determined the fire to have originated on the stage and was caused by a piece of sound equipment.

Everything was brought under control within thirty minutes.

Fire crews remained on the scene until mid-morning to ensure there were no areas of hidden fire remaining and to remove as much smoke and water as possible from the building.

Initial damage was estimated at $200,000.

Queensgate, OH – Sprinkler system activated for golf cart fire in warehouse; No injuries reported

No people were injured after a warehouse fire Wednesday.

It happened just before 3 a.m. on Gest Street. According to fire authorities, a golf cart caught fire in a mechanic bay at Gest Carts.

The blaze tripped the sprinkler system at the facility and aided in controlling the flames before firefighters arrived to extinguish them.

An investigation into what exactly caused the fire was ongoing.

The fire did about $200,000 in damage.

Boone, NC – Sprinkler system extinguishes electrical fire at restaurant

This past Saturday, June 24th, at 4:00am Station 2 was alerted to an automatic fire alarm activation on Watauga Village Drive. Engine 6 arrived to find the sprinkler system activated and smoke coming from a restaurant at the end of the building. Capt. Wilson immediately upgraded the incident to a working structure fire.

Crews deployed hose and forced entry into the building. Upon entry, it was found that the sprinkler system had put out a small fire in the kitchen.

Upon investigation, it was deemed to be an electrical fire that had spread to nearby combustible materials.

This incident highlights the importance of sprinkler systems in reducing fire growth and saving lives!

Madison, WI – Sprinkler system extinguishes fire at apartment complex

A sprinkler system put out a fire at a Madison apartment building. 

Fire officials say crews were called to the 600 block of Sand Pearl Lane overnight Wednesday.

There was haze in one unit and smoke coming from a vent outside the deck.

Firefighters found the fire in the garbage area, which was completely controlled by an automatic fire sprinkler.

Ladder 2 was able to finish the job with their own water can extinguisher. The crew rolled the dumpster outside and Engine 9 filled it with water so the fire could not reignite.

Officials say this is the eighth “sprinkler save” in Madison this year.

Automatic fire sprinklers are shown to be highly effective in detecting a fire quickly and keeping it contained, if not extinguishing the fire altogether before firefighters arrive.

Lauderdale Lake, FL – Sprinkler system activated for fire at assisted living facility

Nearly 30 residents of an assisted living facility had to be evacuated after a fire broke out late Tuesday night.

About 50 firefighters arrived to St. Joseph Residence, off Northwest 30th Street, to help evacuate nearly 30 residents, a Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue (BSFR) news release said.

Just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters were met with smoke and a small fire in a room on the third floor of the facility. The flame was apparently caused by an unattended candle, but the sprinkler system inside the building kept it at bay.

The news release said most of the evacuated residents live on the second, third and fourth floors and were experiencing smoke and water damage from the sprinklers.

Only two residents needed medical transport, but their conditions were stable as of last night, per BSFR.

Santa Rosa, CA – Sprinkler system activated for fire in 14-story apartment building

An elderly woman and a small dog were rescued from a fire that broke out in a Santa Rosa high-rise apartment complex on Sunday morning, announced the Santa Rosa Fire Department.

The fire department first received reports of a fire via a water flow alarm in a 14-story apartment building on 801 Tupper St shortly after 4 a.m.

Firefighters responded to apartment 303 in the building and found that a sprinkler system activated and extinguished a fire from the kitchen. Firefighters found a woman on the ground of the living room floor and brought her to the first floor lobby. A small dog was also found in the apartment.

The woman was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

Fire officials deemed the apartment uninhabitable because of severe water and fire damage. Water damage also affected seven other apartments in the building, said firefighters.

Bismarck, ND – Sprinkler system activated for vehicle fire at truck shop; No injuries reported

The warehouse of a major Bismarck construction company was damaged in the early morning hours on Thursday.

Bismarck Fire officials say a truck in the shop of Northwest Contracting caught fire, triggering the building’s sprinkler system. Investigators say the system kept the fire under control by the time fire crews arrived around 3 a.m.

Firefighters found heavy smoke and heavy fire and smoke damage to the truck and ceiling in the shop on the 2800 block of Valley Forge Street.

No one was injured. Investigators believe the vehicle fire was accidental.

Alton, IL – Sprinkler system activated for fire in hotel room; No injuries reported

Firefighters were called to the Best Western Premier hotel at 3559 College Ave. in Alton at 9:18 p.m. Friday for a one-room fire.

According to authorities, a fire in the couch of an unoccupied room set off the hotel’s sprinkler system, which extinguished the blaze before firefighters arrived. The hotel immediately evacuated more than 100 people including those who had gathered for a function in a meeting room and a 10-year-old’s birthday pool party.

Tired guests wanting to sleep stood and sat outside of the hotel on all four sides. Firefighters scrambled to shut off the sprinkler system as water poured out of the room and into the first floor hallway.

The room was reported to have been heavily damaged. Fire department officials on Friday night said they had not determined how the fire started in the unoccupied room.

Firefighters made sure the fire was completely out before guests were allowed back in the hotel at 10:01 p.m.

The night wasn’t a complete disappointment, as firefighters let the birthday girl and her guests sit in a fire truck before they left.

The cause of the fire is under investigation; no injuries were reported.
