Sprinkler system helps control fire at apartment building (Miami Beach, FL)

A fire at a Miami Beach apartment building displaced at least 55 people Wednesday night, Miami Beach fire rescue said.  Fire rescue contained the blaze in a single unit at the Mantell Plaza, 255 W. 24th St. Fire rescue was called about 6:30 p.m. to respond to a “suspicious fire” in a third-floor apartment at the Art Deco-style building off Collins Avenue. The sprinkler system activated.

Library arson fire controlled by sprinkler system (Brooksville, FL)

Firefighters were called to the East Hernando Branch Library in Brooksville on July 6 to put out a small fire. While no one was hurt, the smoke activated the building’s sprinkler system, damaging much of the inventory.

Fire sprinklers credited with saving three story apartment (Melbourne, FL)

Brevard County Fire-Rescue responded to a fire call at an apartment building late Monday, May 13 to find that the fire sprinkler system had activated and contained the blaze that had started in the kitchen of one of the residences. 

Lt. Don Slayman, spokesman for Brevard County Fire-Rescue, stated, “The fire sprinklers had been activated, and they quickly prevented any further spread of fire.”

No one was injured in the fire, and resident were able to return to their apartments shortly thereafter.

Fire sprinklers suppress arson fire at retail store (Fort Pierce, FL)

Fire officials are ruling the cause of a fire that started in the early afternoon at a retail store as arson. The fire started in the paper products aisle, and the fire sprinkler kicked on to keep the fire in control until fire crews arrived. 

“The fire sprinklers did exactly what they were supposed to do. If it wasn’t for the fire sprinklers, there would have been more extensive damage,” Fire District Captain Derek Foxx said.
