Sprinklers suppress fire at landfill (Nantucket, MA)

A fire broke out inside a building at the Madaket landfill last Wednesday night, but was suppressed by a sprinkler system and quickly brought under control by Nantucket firefighters. The blaze was first reported around 7:30 p.m.

A child who was playing with a lighter started a fire on the third floor bedroom of a domestic abuse shelter. Fire sprinklers kept the fire from spreading until firefighters arrived to eliminate it completely. No injuries were reported.

Investigators are still trying to find the cause of a fire which began in a bedroom apartment; the end of the fire, however, is not in question. A single fire sprinkler head activated and kept the fire from spreading. No one was injured.

A fire broke out in a large motor that helps manufacture water heater parts, and the synthetic oil used to cool the motor then caught fire. The heat from the fire activated the plant’s fire sprinkler system, which then contained the fire until fire crews arrived and eliminated the remaining flames. No one was reported injured in the fire.

Fire sprinklers help firefighters control blaze at home goods store (Chula Vista, CA)

A customer was able to catch a video of the fire that grew up the racks of a home goods store the afternoon of July 2nd. Investigators, however, are still unsure of what caused the blaze that was doused thanks to fire sprinklers and fire crews. No injuries were reported.

The fire was caused by a lit candle that tipped over and engaged sprinklers on the eighth floor.
“The fire actually did not do much damage because the sprinkler engaged so quickly, as it was designed to do,” said University Crossings media relations representative and Larry Greenberg,

A fire that began on the third floor of an apartment building Wednesday night was brought under control by the unit’s fire sprinkler before fire crews arrived.
 
Golder Ranch Fire Chief Randy Karrer said, “It is incidents such as these that highlight the importance of sprinkler systems in multi-family dwellings. Without them, the fire could have quickly spread to other units, causing greater damage and an increased threat to lives of the residents.”

Fire sprinklers kept a fire that erupted in the hotel kitchen was contained by the hotel’s fire sprinkler system. No injuries were reported from the blaze.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday, Sedona Fire District crewswere called … for a reported structure fire in a multi-unit apartmentbuilding. The first fire crews found the fire was extinguished by a single firesprinkler head that activated in the kitchen of a one-bedroom apartment.  “The fire damage would also have beensignificantly worse if not for the sprinklers,” according to SFD FireMarshal Gary J. Johnson.

Phillips said the fire started from the kitchen stove in apartment 116 and caused the sprinkler system to go off in the apartment extinguishing the fire.  No one was injured.  The fire occurred in the evening.
