An arrest was made in Englewood Friday afternoon in connection to an arson started by a burning Molotov cocktail. The building – which houses a Health One rehabilitation facility – has a full fire sprinkler system which contained the fire. There were no injuries.

Sprinkler system controls fire at Value Place hotel (Fort Walton Beach, FL)

The Value Place hotel at the corner of Racetrack Road and Eglin Parkway was evacuated after a small fire started in a room on the second floor about 4:20 p.m. Monday. Someone had placed a box on top of a stove burner and then turned the burner on. The box caught fire and activated the hotel’s sprinkler system, which put out the fire, said Capt. Jeff Wagner with the Ocean City-Wright Fire Department.

Sprinklers make the difference in middle school fire (Oak Forest, IL)

An electronic device might have been the cause of the fire. “If it wasn’t for the building’s sprinkler system, this place would still be burning,” said Oak Forest Fire Lieutenant Jack Janozik. Custodians were inside the school at the time of the fire, but all evacuated safely. The school’s sprinkler system was essential in snuffing out the flames, and saving the thousands of documents stored in the room. “That saved this building from burning down,” Janozik said.
