Retail, Shopping Mall Panama City, FL – Sprinklers help contain fire at Best Buy January 8, 2016 viking210 A fire at Best Buy on 23rd street in Panama City Monday night has damaged the interior of the store. The first call came in around 10:20 pm about smoke coming out of the building. When Panama City fire crews arrived on scene they saw a “good amount” of smoke and went into attack mode. After getting inside, crews were able to put out the fire just after 10:45pm. As of the time of this writing, 11PM, no cause of the fire had been determined, but smoke continues to pour from the building. An investigator with PCFD is in route. It’s also unknown if the smoke from the blaze has damaged any adjacent businesses. Investigators with the Panama City Fire Department and State Fire Marshall’s Office say the fire began due to a possible electrical short from a printer and has been ruled accidental. Two properly working sprinkler heads are being credited with helping contain the fire to a small area. According to PCFD, none of the business next to Best Buy sustained any fire damage.
Grocery Store / Super Center, Retail Rapid City, SD – Fire at Safeway store held in check by sprinkler system; Store opens next day December 29, 2015 viking210 According to a release from the Rapid City Fire Department, firefighters were summoned about 5:44 a.m. on Christmas Day to a fire alarm at the Safeway store, at 2120 Mount Rushmore Road. A fire in the deli area had activated two sprinkler heads, which kept the fire down until firefighters could douse the flames. Some produce had to be discarded because of smoke exposure, and Oliver White, the department’s spokesman, said there was a small amount of water damage, but he added that the sprinklers were effective in keeping the small fire from spreading. The store was able to open the next day.
Grocery Store / Super Center, Retail Shawnee, KS – Sprinkler system helps minimize damage in fire at Hy-Vee store December 27, 2015 viking210 Shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday, a fire broke out in the deli kitchen area of the Shawnee Hy-Vee. Firefighters say workers were setting up for the morning buffet, when a hot steno lighter was put in storage. It spilled and caught fire. Employees tried to extinguish the fire and a sprinkler inside the store did activate. Fire Marshall Cory Sands says the fire was put out fairly quickly, but there is extensive smoke damage throughout the store. Sands says all opened food will be thrown out, with a value of about $300,000. A quick staff response – and sprinkler activation – helped save over $1 million in food and items. The store was evacuated, and no injuries were reported. The Department of Agriculture has been called. They will have to inspect the store before it re-opens. Sands says he expects the store will be able to re-open this afternoon.

Planet Ink Tattoos, at 12 Powder Springs St. #265, caught fire before 6 p.m., according to Marietta police. The road was temporarily closed between Marietta Square and Waverly Way due to the fire and reopened around 8 p.m, police said. The Marietta fire department could not immediately be reached for comment about the cause of the fire. Police were unable to immediately confirm when the fire began. The Marietta Wine Market below the parlor, along with two other offices, sustained significant water damage due to the sprinkler systems, according to Brandt Blocker, managing artistic director of the Atlanta Lyric Theatre below the parlor. The theater was in the middle of conducting auditions for an upcoming production at the time of the fire, Blocker told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

A display heater caught fire around 11 PM Friday night causing isolated smoke damage and water damage from an activated sprinkler system. While initial reports describe a small amount of damage, the store will be closed until further notice.

Store employees called 911 and safely evacuated all customers from the building after seeing flames in a stockroom. The fire activated a sprinkler and workers tried to put out the fire with extinguishers but were unsuccessful. When firefighters arrived at about 7:45 a.m., they found heavy smoke inside the store. After the fire was extinguished, fans were brought in to remove the smoke. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it is not considered suspicious. Managers had not decided whether to try and reopen the store later on Black Friday.

Firefighters were called to the store, located at 4031 Hillsboro Pike in the Hill Center Green Hills, around 6:30 a.m. Fire officials told News 2 the fire began when a display near an outlet caught on fire. The store’s sprinkler system extinguished the fire by the time firefighters arrived. The fire was contained to the display but inventory was damaged by water from the sprinkler system and smoke. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.

Asheville Fire Department crews were dispatched to Asheville Hardwood Center, 554 Riverside Drive, shortly after 7:30 a.m. for the report of a structure fire, said spokeswoman Kelley Klope. Smoke was showing but crews who entered the building found the fire had been completely extinguished by the sprinkler system, Klope said. Firefighters helped with turning off the water flow of the sprinklers and with ventilation of smoke. Nearby businesses were evacuated as precautionary measures. No injuries were reported. The fire was ruled accidental. Fire sprinkler systems, which can also be used in residential structures, are known to drastically reduce heat, flames and smoke in the event of a fire.
Retail, Shopping Mall Henderson, NV – Sprinkler system contains fire in retail strip mall; No damage to neighboring businesses November 2, 2015 viking210 The Henderson Fire Department responded to a structure fire in a commercial strip center near North Boulder Highway and East Lake Mead Parkway this morning at about 2:30 a.m. The call was reported to 9-1-1 as a water flow event by the building’s alarm monitoring company. The first arriving firefighters observed smoke originating at Las Vegas Kettle Corn, located at 110 N. Boulder Hwy., and requested additional assistance for a possible structure fire. Crews broke the store’s front windows to ventilate the smoke and found the fire in an office area of the business. The fire was controlled by the building’s fire sprinkler system and crews quickly extinguished the remaining fire. The fire did not extend into neighboring businesses. The businesses located in the strip center were closed at the time of the fire. There were no injuries to bystanders or fire personnel. A City of Henderson Fire Investigator, Henderson Police, NV Energy and Southwest Gas assisted in securing the building. It was determined that the fire originated in the store’s camera security equipment.
Retail, Shopping Mall Casa Grande, AZ – Electrical fire at Victoria’s Secret store extinguished by sprinkler system October 29, 2015 viking210 The Victoria’s Secret store at The Promenade at Casa Grande has closed temporarily after a small fire erupted last Wednesday morning. A store associate said it was an electrical fire. The sprinklers had extinguished the fire by the time the Casa Grande Fire Department arrived at about 8 a.m. Signs posted in front of the store indicate the damage could take up to two weeks to repair. Much of the merchandise has been removed as some of the walls and flooring are renovated. The store is expected to undergo a “complete make-over,” according to the associate. Security guards are monitoring the area 24/7 until the store opens again. Residents who call the store at 421-1372 will hear a pre-recorded message indicating the location is temporarily closed with no scheduled date to re-open.
