Puyallup, WA – Fire at Walmart kept in check by sprinkler system; No injuries

Firefighters controlled a large, smoky fire that forced customers and employees to leave a Puyallup Walmart store on Tuesday night.

KOMO-TV reports that Central Pierce Fire and Rescue spokesman Ed Hrivnak said the fire started about 9:30 p.m. The fire department received multiple reports of a fast-moving fire in the garden area.

No injuries were reported.

Hrivnak says the store’s sprinkler system kept the fire in check. It was under control by about 11 p.m.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

Glendale Heights, IL – Sprinkler system extinguishes early morning fire at produce store

A call was received last Wednesday morning at 4:30 am from Valli Produce at 155 North Avenue in Glendale Heights.  An electrical fire started in a storage room that contained Cardboard and Styrofoam. Three of the four sprinklers within the room activated. The fire was extinguished by the time the Fire Department arrived.  All four sprinklers were replaced and the system was returned to service. The store opened Wednesday at its normal time.  The sprinkler system was installed in December of 2013.

 

Kingman, AZ – Sprinklers help put out oven fire at Safeway store

A burning rotisserie oven forced the evacuation of the Safeway store in Kingman at 3970 N. Stockton Hill Road early Tuesday afternoon. The oven reportedly caught fire while cooking chicken.

The small fire set off the sprinkler system in the store, said Joe Dorner, assistant fire chief for the Kingman Fire Department, and crews from that department and Northern Arizona Consolidated responded to help extinguish the fire and clear up lingering smoke in the store.

Kingman Police Department officers helped evacuate the store.  Both fire departments were working with Safeway to help reset the sprinkler system. No injuries were reported.

Chattanooga, TN – Fire at Walmart quickly extinguished by sprinkler system

Chattanooga firefighters responded to a reported fire shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Walmart on Gunbarrel Road. Captain Teri Rose, the incident commander, said the fire was located in the women’s clothing section.

Captain Rose said the fire involved one circular clothing rack.
 
The smoke and fire activated the building’s sprinkler system, which quickly extinguished the flames.

No injuries were reported.

Sprinkler system activates, helps control fire at H-E-B grocery store (Bastrop, TX)

The Bastrop Fire Department responded to a fire call at Bastrop H-E-B on Hasler Boulevard at 9:11 p.m. Tuesday, according to Bastrop Fire Chief Henry Perry. The fire, which broke out near the aisle containing paper towels and toilet paper, took approximately 45 minutes to contain, he said. Perry said the cause of the fire was unknown as of Wednesday morning. The case is under investigation, the chief said. “The fire protection system in the building worked like it was supposed to,” he said. “It worked perfectly.”

Sprinkler system keeps fire from spreading at grocery store (Mesa, AZ)

A small fire was big enough to force the evacuation of a Basha’s grocery store in Mesa on Monday night. The fire started in one of the store’s aisles about 9 p.m. and the store’s sprinkler system prevented it from spreading, a Mesa Fire Department spokesman said. All customers were evacuated safely from the store near Brown Road and Mesa Drive, the spokesman said.

Market fire quelled by sprinkler system (Victorville, CA)

The San Bernardino County Fire Department says it received a fire alarm activation call Thursday about the same time a paramedic crew reported smoke coming from the roof of the Pueblo Ranch Market in Victorville.  A Fire Department statement says arriving units evacuated about 100 people who were unaware of any problem. The fire was found to be in a second-floor electrical box and had set off a single sprinkler head, which checked the fire until firefighters could bring hose lines in and fully extinguish it. No one was injured.

Fire at food market controlled with help from sprinkler system (San Jose, CA)

The two-alarm fire started just after 11 p.m. at the Senter Foods market in South San Jose, and firefighters brought the blaze under control shortly after midnight. There were no injuries reported, and the store was closed at the time. The sprinkler system was activated and helped control the fire. The cause is under investigation.

Supermarket fire squelched by sprinkler (London, UK)

During the early morning hours of March 31st, a fire began in a supermarket in the United Kingdom. The flames began in the loading dock area, and the heat then activated the sprinkler which kept the fire under control until fire crews arrived.
