Chesapeake, VA – Sprinkler system extinguishes fire at sushi restaurant; No injuries reported

The Chesapeake Fire Department responded to a fire at Shiki Sushi & Hibachi in the Mt. Pleasant Market Place late Wednesday night.

Chesapeake firefighters received the call for a commercial fire at 11:30pm at 1464 Mt. Pleasant Road. The businesses alarm company called 911 reporting audible alarm and sprinkler water flow.

The Fire Department arrived nine minutes after dispatch and found a strip mall, with an audible alarm and a smell of smoke coming from the restaurant. Crews had to force entry into the business after noticing smoke through the windows since the business was closed for the evening.

Upon entering, crews found a large amount of smoke and the sprinkler system was activated. The sprinkler system successfully put out the fire before crews entered the business. After firefighters checked the adjacent businesses and found no fire spread, the fire was marked out at 12:11am.

According to Chesapeake Fire Department, Shiki Sushi & Hibachi representatives are on scene evaluating the extent of damage to the business and believe they will be closed tomorrow. No other businesses were effected and there were no injuries.

Chesapeake Fire Marshals are conducting an investigation to determine what caused the fire.

Kingston, NY – Sprinkler system activated for kitchen fire; No injuries reported

Around 10:45 p.m. Friday night, the Kingston Fire Department was called to 30 Broadway for an alarm sounding. Crews arriving on the scene forced their way into both 24 and 30 Broadway and found a kitchen fire at 24 Broadway.

The sprinkler system inside the building contained the fire. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze and searched for trapped occupants while putting it out. Luckily, all occupants were able to safely evacuate the building without any injuries.

The cause of this fire remains under investigation by the Kingston Fire Department Fire Investigation team. 24 Broadway sustained minor smoke and fire damage but had significant water damage after the incident.

Naperville, IL – Sprinkler system activated for restaurant kitchen fire; No injuries reported

A Naperville restaurant was damaged in a kitchen fire Monday night, according to the Naperville Fire Department.

At 6:56 p.m., a single fire engine was dispatched to Buttermilk, located at 1715 Freedom Drive, to investigate an active fire alarm, authorities said.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered black smoke coming from the roof vent.

Authorities said that firefighters promptly upgraded to general alarm after seeing the smoke.

Firefighters had to force their way into the restaurant, which had already closed for the night, according to authorities.

Authorities said that a fire inside the restaurant’s kitchen was being held in check by a sprinkler system.

A hose was used to extinguish the remaining flames, and the fire was declared under control at 7:24 p.m., according to authorities.

The restaurant was vacant at the time, and there were no injuries.

The restaurant was deemed uninhabitable by the Naperville Transportation, Engineering and Development Team.

Authorities said that the fire caused $25,000 in damages.

“It was mostly water damage from the sprinkler system and the suppression efforts,” said Division Chief Daniel Smith.

The Lisle Woodridge Fire Department assisted.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Vancouver, WA – Sprinkler system activated for fire at former restaurant

The Vancouver Fire Department battled a fire at the former Joe’s Crab Shack along the waterfront early Monday morning.

At about 5:41 a.m., crews were called out to a fire at the former seafood restaurant, located at 101 East Columbia Way. The restaurant closed for good in May 2020.

Crews arrived to the scene and found fire outside of the building, spreading to the inside. Vancouver Fire said the flames were initially knocked down in about 10 minutes, but the fire wasn’t fully under control until 50 minutes into the operation.

The building’s sprinkler system was activated which helped firefighters control the fire, according to Vancouver Fire.

In total, 20 firefighters were on scene, along with the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Columbia Way was shut down due to the response. People were asked to avoid the area while fire crews were on scene.

Charleston, SC – Sprinkler system activated for fire at restaurant; No injuries reported

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire Sunday morning at a King Street restaurant.

Crews responded at 11 a.m. to a fire reported in a storage room at the Stars Rooftop and Grill Room, the Charleston Fire Department said in a Twitter post.

Sprinklers activated and contained the fire until the fire department arrived.

There were no injuries and firefighters reported minimal damage.

Wood-Ridge, NJ – Sprinkler system contains fire at pizza restaurant

A fire in the basement of a popular pizza restaurant was quickly put out by the Wood-Ridge Fire Department Monday morning.

The Wood-Ridge Fire Department was alerted to the fire by a central station monitored smoke detector system which covers 251B through 255 Valley Boulevard, according to Wood-Ridge Chief of Department Kenneth Schulz.

Upon arrival of Fire Chief officers, an employee of the Empanada Shop reported smoke in the basement of his establishment.

The Chief officers found a working fire in the basement of the adjoining business, Emilia Romagna Restaurant. A fire sprinkler system in this basement kept the fire contained until first arriving Wood-Ridge Fire Department companies aggressively extinguished the fire preventing further spread, said Schulz.

The fire has closed Emilia Romagna indefinitely, according to Schulz. There was minor smoke damage to the businesses at 251 B and 251A Valley Blvd.

The one block stretch of Valley Boulevard, from Marlboro Road to Windsor Road, was closed for most of the day.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Arson Squad.

Mutual aid fire departments assisting on the second alarm at the scene were Carlstadt, Hasbrouck Heights, and Wallington. Little Ferry, Lodi, and Moonachie covered Wood-Ridge headquarters and responded to a second fire alarm in another part of town.

The Italian restaurant anchors the stretch of stores which includes a butcher, physical therapy office, nail salon, convenience store, juice bar, and several other restaurants.

San Antonio, TX – Sprinkler system activated for arson fire at former restaurant

San Antonio fire officials say they believe someone deliberately set fire to a former restaurant on the northwest side of the city early Friday morning.

The fire broke out around 1 am at Joe’s Crab Shack in the 4700 block of Northwest Loop 410 near Babcock Road.

According to fire authorities, a San Antonio police officer happened to be driving a car, saw the smoke and called. Upon arrival, firefighters found a fire inside the building.

Officials say someone seems to have thrown a Molotov cocktail through the window and triggered the sprinkler system. The sprinkler system has put out most of the fire.

The restaurant was closed and boarded, so no one was inside and no other nearby building was threatened by fire.

Firefighters said this was the second time a suspicious fire had broke out in a building within the last few months.

Currently, investigators have not been arrested.

Coralville, IA – Sprinkler system activated for small kitchen fire at restaurant

At 7:00 am Wednesday morning, the Coralville Fire Department responded to a building fire at the 30 Hop at 900 E 2nd Ave.

Responders say that due to the sprinkler system activation, there was little damage and the fire was contained to a small corner of the kitchen. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but ruled to be accidental.

Crews estimate roughly $15,000 in damage.

Cedar Rapids, IA – Sprinkler system activated for fire at restaurant; No injuries reported

Firefighters responded to an alarm at a restaurant at 305 2nd Avenue Southeast in downtown Cedar Rapids early Tuesday morning.

The small fire was found in the second floor kitchen at White Star Ale House, but officials said it was being held in check by the sprinkler system. No one was at the restaurant when the fire occurred.

In a release, officials said a bag of rags ignited due to animal fat from the grease and heat from being laundered earlier in the night by staff.

Officials said the building suffered minor damage.

Firefighters encouraged residents and businesses to spread out laundered clothing or towels after removing from the dryer to allow them to cool.

Charleston, WV – Sprinkler system activated for fire at bakery, No injuries reported

The Charleston Fire Department is investigating the fire that started late Tuesday night at Rock City Cake Company. Fire Marshal Richard Symns said when they responded to the fire, it was contained to a storage room containing holiday decorations on the second floor of the building.

“We believe something that was around the ornaments was combustible. We haven’t found the heat source that caused those ornaments to catch on fire,” Symns said.

Firefighters say the sprinklers and alarm went off in the building soon after the fire happened. The owners of the bakery were inside, and the fire was put out quickly.

The source of the fire is what they are currently investigating, and said they do not believe the cause was electrical.

“There is not outlets around the stuff that was in there. There may be something battery-powered. We don’t know that is what we are trying to figure out,” Symns said.

The Woolworth building is where Rock City Cake Company is located.

Rock City Cake Company shared some information on social media about their status. The bakery said they will be closed for at least a week.

Firefighters said the damage to the building was minimal but there is water damage from the sprinklers going off. In order for the bakery to reopen, Rock City Cake Company must get the green light following an investigation and inspection.

In the meantime, the bakery owners have shared that they will be filling pre-orders out of a commercial kitchen nearby and they shared that they will continue to participate in upcoming holiday events.
