Plover Fire Chief Mark Deaver said the sprinkler system in the building was to thank for everything that was saved during the incident, in which no one was injured. The metro fire team, consisting of units from the Plover, Stevens Point and Hull fire departments, responded at around 11:15 p.m. Thursday. Crews were on scene for about two hours, Deaver said. The fire took about 10 minutes to extinguish after firefighters arrived on the scene. Deaver said the investigation is ongoing but that the building remained intact and suffered no structural damage.

Batalian Chief Scott Knesley with the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District said the kitchen’s sprinkler systems put out most of the fire before fire crews arrived on the scene. He said firefighters had to take apart some of the duct system by the stove and oven to extinguish the rest of the blaze. Knesley said everyone evacuated the building properly and no one was hurt. “All of the employees did a great job,” Knesley said. Wildfire will be open from 11:15 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Friday.

A sprinkler installed inside the mall managed to extinguish most of the fire and firefighters checked for flames in nearby areas of the mall. Tulare County Environmental Health was called to evaluate total damage to the restaurant. Fire officials estimated the damage at $7,000 to the structure and about $1,000 to the contents of the restaurant. They estimated that $6.2 million was saved by fire sprinklers. The cause of the fire was determined to be a small fan in the kitchen that was left on and malfunctioned overnight.

The fire, which was reported at 11:36 p.m., started in the kitchen, went up a kitchen wall and spread into the ceiling, Bovard fire Chief Greg Saunders said. The first responders were able to knock it down quickly, Saunders said. The building’s sprinkler system also sprayed water on the fire.
