Fire in fifth-floor hotel room extinguished by sprinkler system (Pittsburgh, PA)

Pittsburgh firefighters responded to a fire in a fifth-floor room of an Upper Hill District hotel shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday. Sprinklers at the hotel extinguished the fire, and no one was injured, according to an Allegheny County emergency dispatcher. The county’s 911 center received the call at 11:06 and firefighters reported that the fire was out 15 minutes later.

Sprinkler system extinguishes office fire at local restaurant (Lake Zurich, IL)

*** FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORTED – NO MEDIA COVERAGE *** On the evening of January 14, 2013, the Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department was dispatched to an automatic fire alarm activation at 769 W. Hwy 22 (Kobe East) in Lake Zurich. The first arriving companies, upon entry, found light smoke in the building and the sound of water running. Upon investigation, a burnt/melted electrical strip was found with signs of heat extension up the wall. The fire was not only controlled but also extinguished by activation of a single sprinkler head. Due to the activation of the sprinkler system, the fire was contained to the room of origin and no further fire suppression activities were required. The fire companies assisted in salvage, water clean up, fire investigation, sprinkler system restoration, cause and origin investigation and stand-by for continued community service. Currently, Kobe East is awaiting health department approval to reopen.

The fire appears to be accidental/electrical in nature. All crews returned to service after salvage operations

Hotel room fire extinguished by sprinkler system (Yuma, AZ)

Sprinklers put out a stove-top fire in a room at a Yuma hotel Saturday afternoon before firefighters arrived. Yuma Fire Department spokesman Mike Erfert said arriving YFD personnel found there had been a fire in a fourth-floor of the hotel and that the sprinkler head near the fire had activated and extinguished the fire. The fire was caused by a pan of oil left heating on the stove by the room’s occupant. Erfert said the fire damage was limited to the immediate area around and above the stove-top. There were no injuries.

Sprinklers minimize damage in fire at sushi restaurant (Sacramento, CA)

The fire broke out in the Hazel Avenue restaurant’s HVAC system about 2:30 a.m., but was contained by the sprinkler system, said Michelle Eidam, a spokeswoman for the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. Sprinkler system controls fire at Value Place hotel (Fort Walton Beach, FL)

The Value Place hotel at the corner of Racetrack Road and Eglin Parkway was evacuated after a small fire started in a room on the second floor about 4:20 p.m. Monday. Someone had placed a box on top of a stove burner and then turned the burner on. The box caught fire and activated the hotel’s sprinkler system, which put out the fire, said Capt. Jeff Wagner with the Ocean City-Wright Fire Department.

Restaurant fire extinguished by sprinklers, Reopens same day (Sevierville, TN)

A sprinkler system saved a Sevierville Red Lobster from burning down Sunday morning. According to SFD Fire Marshal Tommy White, it appeared the fire started in a pile of empty boxes and trash located inside the rear door of the restaurant. “The cause of the fire is likely improperly discarded embers from a wood-burning stove,” said Fire Marshal White. Firefighters say the overhead sprinkler quickly put out the fire. No damage was reported and the restaurant was allowed to open on Sunday.

Sprinklers contain hotel fire to room of origin (Reno, NV)

Fire crews are investigating a fire that broke out inside the Ponderosa Hotel in south Reno on Thanksgiving morning.  The fire started just after 10:30am on the third floor of the South Virginia Street hotel.  The fire was contained to the one room, whichwas locked at the time the fire started, though no one was inside.  Firefighters say a few guests on third floor were evacuated as a precaution. The fire activated the building’s sprinkler system.  No one was hurt.
