A sprinkler system at the Patio restaurant in Orland Park is being credited with limiting the damage caused by an early morning fire Thursday, officials said.  Firefighters were dispatched to the 7930 W. 159th St. business about 1:30 a.m. for an activated fire alarm and found smoke inside the building, a release from the Orland Fire Protection District said.  However, a sprinkler head had extinguished the fire that had started in one of the cooking oil fryers. Katy, TX – (No Media Coverage) Electrical fire at restaurant extinguished by sprinkler system

*** FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORTED *** On Saturday 11/11/2018, the Fort Bend County Fire Marshal’s Office responded to a fire in a business at the request of Willowfork FD.   They were dispatched to a fire alarm at the Babaloo Bar & Grill which is one of several business in a building covered by a common suppression system.   Upon arrival the business was closed and the water flow alarm was sounding. Upon further investigation they found water exiting the back door of the business.  They forced entry, removed the smoke and found a sprinkler activation consisting of one head in an office area that was located almost directly above the remains of a small fire.  The fire was a result of an electrical failure of charging devices that were plugged into several multi-plug power strips located on the floor. The fire spread to a large framed painting on the wall.  The sprinkler activation completely extinguished the fire and limited the fire damage to the original items ignited and the painting.

Las Vegas, NV – Overnight fire in hotel-casino’s ice cream shop is held in check by sprinkler system

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue responded to the California hotel-casino early Thursday morning after a fire started inside an ice cream shop.  According to LVFR, firefighters arrived at the California hotel in downtown Las Vegas at 1:14 a.m. after a fire sprinkler was activated and smoke alarms went off inside the hotel’s ice cream shop, located on the second floor.  Firefighters noticed the flames were on the front counter display cooler unit and had been doused by the automatic sprinkler system, fire officials said. Once the fire was completely out, firefighters turned off the sprinklers to prevent any additional water damage.

Hotel housekeeping and maintenance worked with firefighters to help with water cleanup, according to LVFR.  Investigators believe the fire started inside the cooler unit and was “electrical in nature,” LVFR said. The damage from the fire was contained to the front counter.  Damage costs were estimated at $25,000 and the front counter will likely have to be replaced entirely, according to fire officials. Because the fire was contained within the ice cream shop, guests at the California hotel did not have to evacuate. No injuries were reported. Firefighters left the scene by 3 a.m.

“The fire sprinkler quickly kept the situation in check until firefighters arrived on scene and kept damage to a minimum as well as operations on the property were not impacted,” Tim Szymanski, LVFR’s public information officer, said.

A stove top fire at Localis restaurant in midtown Sacramento on Tuesday morning was contained to the kitchen by firefighters, but mop up from smoke and water damage could sideline the dining spot for several days.  Firefighters were called to the eatery on S Street at 21st Street at 9:07 a.m. when a passerby saw flames inside the business coming from the stove top, said Sacramento Fire Battalion Chief Jim Edmiston at the scene.

No one was inside the building at the time and apartments above the restaurant were not affected by the small blaze. The restaurant said in a statement on its Facebook page: “Its true, we had a small fire in the kitchen early this morning. Everybody is fine and there was minimal damage. We are closing tonight and will reopen tomorrow. We could really use your support this week to recoup from the closure.

Nearby Broadway and downtown fire crews punched through the locked entrance, and with assistance from the restaurant’s sprinkler system they knocked down the flames in about 30 minutes, but firefighters remained on scene to clean up the damage from smoke and water left behind.  “Our goal is to try to get them back in business ASAP,” Edmiston said.  Once cleanup is complete, health inspectors will come in to determine when the restaurant can reopen, Edmiston said.
