Crews got the call around 8:30 p.m., Friday night. Tim Szymanski with Las Vegas Fire and Rescue says an arcade machine caught fire and was put out by the fire sprinkler in the building. No injuries were reported during the incident. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Crews on scene are assisting maintenance personnel with returning things back to normal.
Restaurant Meridian, ID – Sprinkler systems assists firefighters in extinguishing kitchen fire at entertainment venue March 9, 2019 viking210 A kitchen grease fire caused some damage at Big Al’s Meridian Wednesday, but the restaurant and entertainment venue was able to open Thursday. Meridian Fire responded at about 11:30 p.m. Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer said the fire was extinguished within five minutes. There was minimal smoke damage from the fire and a sprinkler activated, he said. Kelly O’Callaghan, Big Al’s general manager, said staff think a piece of equipment might have malfunctioned causing the fire, but they’re not sure. An employee noticed the fire after kitchen staff had cleaned up and gone home. O’Callaghan said Big Al’s is open and serving food from its snack bar. He said they plan to have the main kitchen back up and running by Saturday.
Restaurant Rostraver Twp, PA – Fire in unoccupied restaurant is extinguished by sprinkler system March 7, 2019 viking210 A fire erupted at a Rostraver Township restaurant on Monday before it was quickly extinguished by the business’s sprinkler system. Rostraver Central Fire Department said in a mid-afternoon posting to its Facebook account that its members had answered a 911 call placed by employees of Sweeney’s Steakhouse on Rostraver Road. The department said restaurant staff reportedly arrived for work to find signs of the extinguished fire. The state fire marshal is investigating. The department made no mention of the fire causing any injuries at the restaurant, which appears to have been unoccupied whenever the fire started. Firefighters didn’t immediately return a message left at the station. The department’s post said Collinsburg Volunteer Fire Company, which is also located in the township, assisted. The restaurant was founded in the 1930s. Debra Hardy, the now-former wife of billionaire 84 Lumber founder Joe Hardy, has owned it since 1994.
Restaurant Westerly, RI – Fire in kitchen area of restaurant is put out by sprinkler system March 4, 2019 viking210 A wok fire at New China Pavilion caused a bit of a stir just before lunchtime last Wednesday, but a sprinkler helped douse the fire, preventing any damage to the restaurant. Westerly firefighters were dispatched to the restaurant at 105 Franklin St. around 11:15 a.m. with reports from police that smoke was visible at the building. They arrived to find that a small fire had occurred involving a wok in the kitchen area, but the flames were out before officials arrived. The restaurant staff vented much of the smoke quickly and emergency responders were cleared from the scene in approximately 15 minutes. The restaurant resumed normal operations.
Hotel / Motel, Hotel / Restaurant Carson City, NV – Sprinkler extinguishes fire at historic hotel February 19, 2019 viking210 A fire sprinkler was able to extinguish a fire at the historic St. Charles Hotel on Carson Street on Tuesday. A dog was also rescued during the incident. At about 12:15 p.m., Carson City Fire units were dispatched to the structure at 310 S. Carson St. The first arriving firefighters observed smoke coming from the second floor of the St. Charles Residential Hotel. Crews quickly made entry into the smoke filled apartment and located an unconscious small dog. Firefighters also confirmed the fire had been extinguished by a working fire sprinkler. Officials stated if the building didn’t have fire sprinklers the fire would have been much worse. The dog was resuscitated and taken to a local veterinary hospital by firefighters. The damage to the hotel is estimated to be $10,000. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. A total of 17 firefighters responded to the incident.
Hotel / Motel, Hotel / Restaurant Boone, NC – Fire at Super 8 Motel suppressed by sprinkler system until fire crews arrived February 15, 2019 viking210 The Super 8 by Wyndham hotel at 2419 N.C. 105 in Boone is back open after an early-morning fire Feb. 7, according to the hotel’s owner. “We would like to thank the Boone Fire Department for arriving quickly and ensuring that all of our guests were safe,” Super 8 owner Justin Patel said in a Feb. 8 statement. Patel stated that hotel operations resumed as of Friday evening and that going forward, fire safety classes will be conducted for his employees. “We are in the beginning stages of planning a yearly fire safety protocol class in conjunction with the Boone Fire Department,” Patel stated. “The goal of the class will be to help prepare local businesses to handle emergency situations like the one we just experienced. This class will be open to all owners and employees of local hospitality businesses. Our hope is to keep all of our High Country visitors as safe as possible.” Patel is the registered vice president of hotel management group Panoramic Hospitality. Along with the Super 8, Panoramic also owns the La Quinta Inn and Suites and Sleep Inn on N.C. 105 Extension. Boone Police spokesperson Shane Robbins said Feb. 9 that the fire is still under investigation. On Feb. 7, Boone Police Cpl. Kat Eller said the fire is considered suspicious. She added that the department has a suspect, but Robbins said that as of the morning of Feb. 9, no arrests had been made in the investigation. Eller said Boone Police had requested a search warrant for one of the rooms in the hotel. Boone Fire had cleared the scene around 3 p.m. on Feb 7, according to Boone Fire Capt. Jacob Burleson. Burleson said the call initially came in at 3:10 a.m. as a fire alarm and then re-dispatched six minutes later for a structure fire. There was one origin of fire on the second floor that was actively burning. Burleson said. This fire was suppressed by the sprinkler system by the time Boone Fire had arrived on the scene. Firefighters advanced a hose line through to ensure that the fire was out, Burleson said. Eller said there were various “char marks” in other places of the building as well. As first responders arrived on the scene, the building was in the process of being evacuated. Burleson said when personnel were conducting searches in the building to ensure the fire was suppressed, it was found that several rooms had not evacuated. These individuals were escorted out by fire personnel, later allowed to return to their rooms with escorts and then escorted back out of the building, Burleson said. Burleson advised that people should evacuate when they see or hear a fire alarm activated, as this is for their own safety as well as the safety of first responders.
Hotel / Motel Chesapeake, VA – Fire in 3rd floor room at Comfort Suites hotel extinguished by sprinkler system February 14, 2019 viking210 Firefighters responded to a hotel room fire in Chesapeake. A call came in around 1:49 p.m. last Monday, in reference to a fire in one of the hotel rooms on the third floor at the Comfort Suites located 1550 Crossways Blvd in Chesapeake. Officials reported that the hotel’s sprinkler system had extinguished the fire. Crews worked to ventilate the hotel. The third floor has reports of some water and smoke damage. No injuries were reported. Upon preliminary investigation by officials, it appears fire started in the HVAC system. There is no further information at this time.
Hotel / Restaurant, Restaurant Falmouth, MA – Sprinkler system extinguishes electrical fire at restaurant February 8, 2019 viking210 The sprinkler system in the Ninety-Nine Restaurant at 30 Davis Straights in Falmouth extinguished a fire in the basement before firefighters arrived on Saturday morning, February 2. An early-morning cleaning crew called firefighters at 5:11 AM when they discovered smoke alarms sounding, an odor of smoke, and the basement sprinklers activated, Falmouth Deputy Fire Chief Scott J. Thrasher said. Firefighters opened the back door to let water out of the basement, shut off the electricity to the building, and notified the owner of the restaurant and the town’s building and health departments. As soon as possible, firefighters reactivated the unaffected electrical circuits to keep the hot water and the freezers working to avoid further damage to the restaurant. Deputy Chief Thrasher said that the fire is under active investigation, but the fire department believes the fire was related to electrical equipment in the basement. “Ninety-Nine is trying to get back up and running for tonight,” he said, referring to Saturday night.

Firefighters responded at 12:21 a.m. to a fire alarm at Sushi Para, 1268 E. Dundee Road, according to the Palatine Fire Department. The fire started in the kitchen and was quickly put out by the building’s sprinkler system. No one was injured, but the restaurant was left uninhabitable, the fire department said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Restaurant Reading, PA – Sprinkler system helps keep restaurant fire from spreading to neighboring businesses February 3, 2019 viking210 Firefighters responded to an early Thursday morning fire at a Chinese restaurant in north Reading. Crews were dispatched shortly before midnight to the 800 block of Oley Street for the report of a structure fire. Reading Fire Deputy Chief Ronald Banks said a small fire was found in the kitchen of the Happy Family Chinese buffet on the first floor of the shopping complex at 810 Oley St. Banks said firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, and the sprinkler system in the kitchen was activated. He said the extent of damage was still being determined. Firefighters ventilated smoke from the front of the restaurant as crews checked for any other damage to businesses in the complex, including a barber shop, a Mexican restaurant, a nail salon and a daycare. The fire marshal was sent to the scene to conduct an investigation. Firefighters finished up operations shortly after 1 a.m.
