Apartment kitchen fire quickly extinguished with help from sprinkler system (Woodridge, IL)

No injuries were reported in a Sunday morning fire that apparently began on a stove and left three units uninhabitable in a Woodridge apartment building, authorities said. They said a small kitchen fire had triggered the sprinkler system.

The two residents living in the unit where the fire started were taken to safety, authorities said, and the fire was quickly extinguished.

Sprinkler system averts major fire (Yankton, SD)

A minor fire that could have turned into a big problem was extinguished by a Yankton firm’s sprinkler system Sunday morning.

A gas-fired evaporator had malfunctioned, igniting some combustible items in the immediate area and setting off the alarm. Thanks to the sprinkler system, there was minimal damage from the fire. “Everything did what is was suppose to do,” Assistant Fire Chief Larry Nickels said. “That could have been a very bad fire for that business.”

Single sprinkler head contained apartment fire (Englewood, CO)

Investigators say the fire was caused when a stove burner was left on high and items near the stove caught fire. The microwave above the stove was melting and kitchen cabinets were burning when a single sprinkler head activated and put out the fire.

A smoke alarm in the apartment activated, but it was not until the sprinkler head went off that other alarms in the complex went off and the fire department was notified. No injuries.
