Residents were allowed to go back to their rooms once the fire was contained and firefighters finished their inspection, about three hours later. “It’s imperative that a system comes on and puts a fire out,” he said. “With as many people on each floor of the building, without a sprinkler system, this could have been a major fire.”

It was determined that a towel caught fire in the locker room which activated the sprinkler system. The activation set off the alarm system which evacuated the school.
