Suspicious apartment fire put out by sprinkler system (North Bay, ON)

A flaming object that was thrown down the garbage chute of an apartment on Thursday night at about 10 p.m. The sprinkler system activated and put out the fire, and police report that thanks to the fire sprinkler, there was no damage to the building. This is the fourth time that a fire has started for similar reasons in this apartment building.

In the second incident, firefighters were called to 810 Ouellette for reports of smoke in the building.
Firefighters investigated smoke in the building’s garbage chute and it appears as though the fire was successfully extinguished by a sprinkler.

Sprinkler system contains fire at Royal Canadian Mint (Ottawa, ON)

There are no injuries and no burned money after a fire at the Royal Canadian Mint’s facility in Winnipeg. Spokesperson Christine Aquino says employees were evacuated safely and production resumed within a few hours. The Winnipeg fire department says the fire was caused by overheated electrical equipment, and was contained by the building’s sprinkler system.

School fire extinguished by sprinkler system, students returned to class within the hour (Bracebridge, ON)

Students at Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School were evacuated briefly this morning following a fire in the school’s woodworking shop. The fire was reported at 10 a.m., and was soon extinguished by the school sprinkler system. Students were evacuated as a precaution, but returned to class within the hour.

No injuries were reported.
