Sprinkler system aids firefighters in extinguishing apartment fire (Gainesville, GA)

The accidental discharge of a flare gun sparked a fire Tuesday afternoon inside The Retreat at McEver Apartments. “The sprinkler system in the building had all but extinguished the fire upon the arrival of the fire department,” said Gainesville Fire Chief Jon Canada. He said no other apartment units were damaged by the blaze and no injuries were reported.

Kids Zone on the campus of Church in the Now was evacuated Wednesday evening after a fire started in the back of a refrigerator. Rockdale County Fire and Rescue Public Information Officer Sharon Webb said the fire activated the building’s sprinkler system which extinguished the fire.

Webb said none of the occupants was injured.

A home sprinkler system helped save 11 people from a fire early Saturday. The fire broke out in the early morning hours when most of the six children, 4 to 12 years old, and five adults were asleep.

Several adults tried to put the fire out, but it was a single sprinkler head that did the job before the city Fire Department arrived.
