New Albany, IN – Well-maintained fire sprinkler system keeps warehouse fire in check; No injuries reported

NEW ALBANY,IN (WAVE) – New Albany firefighters responded when a fire broke out at the Sazerac facility on Friday.

A Facebook post from the department confirms the fire started at the facility, located on Pillsbury Lane.

Officials say the fire was extinguished in part thanks to a well-maintained sprinkler system.

Fargo, ND – Activated fire sprinklers quickly put out fire on third floor of apartment building; No injuries reported

Fargo firefighters responded to a water flow alarm at a 3 story apartment building at 4877 28th Av S.

Upon arrival, firefighters were met by tenants outside saying there was a fire in apartment #301. Crews quickly made their way to the 3rd floor to find that the fire in that unit had been extinguished by the buildings sprinkler system.

3 sprinkler heads were activated to extinguish the fire. Water damage became the next task at hand and efforts were made to shut down the sprinkler system as soon as possible.

There were no injuries and fire spread was limited to the room of origin due to early activation of the 9-1-1 and sprinkler systems and quick actions taken by the first arriving fire crews.

The fire cause is under investigation. No damage assessment is available at this time. City View Property Mgmt. helped the tenants of the damaged apartments by putting them up temporarily in other units that they manage.

An official with the Fargo Fire Department tells us, they got call for white smoke billowing from the third floor of the apartment complex.

By the time they got to the scene, a sprinkler system has already put most of the fire out. The resident of the third floor apartment wasn’t home at the time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. There is water damage to apartments below where fire began.

Fire crews are on the scene of a possible fire at an apartment complex in Fargo.

The call came in around 2:30 Friday afternoon on a report of a structure fire on the 4800 block of 28th Ave. S. Smoke is reported on the third floor of the apartment.

A reporter on the scene tells us, there are no visible flames but fire crews appear to be investigating a balcony. A resident tells us, they were evacuated from the building.

Newark, CA – Sprinkler system holds fire at local business in check; No injuries reported

NEWARK, CA — A 2-alarm fire at a Newark business was contained to a test room within 30 minutes of Alameda County firefighters arriving at the scene Thursday morning, according to fire department spokeswoman Aisha Knowles.

The fire broke out at NTS Newark Test Lab, located at 38995 Cherry Street. “A large lead-acid battery caught fire and was held in check by the sprinkler system. The battery is approximately 3’x2’x2′,” Knowles told Patch. “The business had some residual smoke through the adjacent office space, but minimal damage overall in the test room.”

No injuries were reported.

Jackson, MS – Sprinkler system activated for fire on 10th floor of apartment building

People gathered on the sidewalk to watch smoke and water come out of a window in a downtown Jackson building Monday afternoon.

Jackson Fire Department District Chief Shunta Wilder told the Clarion Ledger a “small fire,” contained to one apartment unit, broke out at 308 E. Pearl St. It is currently under investigation, she said.

Signs on the building advertise luxury apartment units for rent as well as office and retail space.

Jeremy Cosby said he was napping in his ninth-floor apartment unit when alarms started going off around 2:35 p.m.

Cosby said as he left his unit, he grabbed his wallet so he would have identification on hand. Everything else, including family heirlooms, he left behind.

He could see and smell smoke as he headed down the stairs.

Cosby and his roommate looked worried as they stood on the sidewalk across the street to watch the firefighters at work.

“We don’t know what is what inside. We got to wait and see,” he said.

Fire breaks out on 10th floor of downtown Jackson building

At least five firetrucks rushed on scene. A firefighter could be seen opening three windows on the 10th floor of the building, letting the smoke out.

Summer Land lives on 10th floor of the building. She said she was doing homework when the alarm started blaring. Not long after that, the sprinkler system kicked in.

Tenants were told to evacuate and not use the elevators, Land said. 

“It was very clear what we should do. It was loud, too,” she said. 

Subway restaurant employees, who work on the ground floor of the same building, were also evacuated, as water continued to trickle down from above. 

Chesapeake, VA – Fire at residential care facility extinguished by sprinkler system; No injuries reported

The Chesapeake, Virginia Beach and Norfolk Fire Departments responded to a fire at Indian River Residential Care Sunday. According to Chesapeake Fire, the fire started on the exterior of the residential care facility, which is located in the 1000 block of Justis Street. Crews were called to the scene at 12:03 p.m. Fire extension to the interior was quickly extinguished by the sprinkler system. No injuries were reported.

Calgary, AB, Canada – Apartment fire extinguished by sprinkler system; No injuries reported

Just under two dozen residents of an apartment building in Bridgeland were forced out of their homes last Saturday afternoon after a fire broke out. Crews were called to the complex, in the 400 block of 2 Avenue N.E. at about 1:25 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered smoke on the second floor and soon traced it to a small fire inside one of the units but found it had already been extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system. Crews ordered 23 residents of the building out of their homes so they could be assessed by EMS. There is no information on any injuries as a result of the fire. A fire investigator has been called to determine the cause.

Tualatin, OR – Sprinkler system contained fire from battery test at warehouse

A fire broke out Thursday during a new product test of six large lithium-ion batteries at a Tualatin warehouse.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said crews responded to the 20000 block of Southwest 115th Avenue about 5:05 p.m. Someone from the business that was performing the testing reported the batteries were on fire.

Firefighters quickly contained the blaze, but it took a while to completely extinguish the flames. The building’s automatic sprinkler system helped contain the fire and minimize damage to the building and its contents.

A hazmat team responded, and authorities carried out a water containment plan to minimize any environmental effects, according to Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue. The hazmat team also monitored air quality and set up a decontamination process for crews that had been directly exposed to smoke and flames, the agency said.

Surrounding businesses were evacuated as a precaution, according to the agency, and no one was hurt.

A fire investigator responded to determine the cause of the one-alarm blaze.

The fire and rescue agency didn’t publicly identify the business where the blaze occurred in a news release late Thursday.

Mission, CA – Sprinkler system holds apartment fire in check; No injuries reported

Mission Fire Rescue Services responded to an alarm at a downtown apartment building on Tuesday (April 9) afternoon. The fire started just after 4 p.m. in a fourth floor apartment at Mission Manor, located at 33165 Second Ave. The first crew to arrive on scene discovered smoke coming from the suite. “At that time we activated a full alarm assignment for all three stations,” explained Mission fire chief Dale Unrau. Originally, the fire was believed to be inside the walls of the apartment, but the real cause was soon discovered. “There was an unattended pot on the stove that caught into the kitchen cupboards,” said Unrau. The fire was contained to the inside of the cabinet as the sprinkler system held it in check. Unrau said firefighters had to extinguish few hot spots embedded in the cabinetry, but after that the situation was under control.

Kansas City, MO – Chemical storage fire in warehouse is contained by sprinkler system; No injuries reported

The Kansas City Fire Department worked to clear the scene of a warehouse fire Tuesday afternoon. Authorities said the incident happened around 1:43 p.m. in the 1200 block of East 13th Street inside what is believed to be the Graybar Electric Supply warehouse. The fire happened in a room containing several unknown chemicals, fire officials said. The building’s sprinkler system was able to keep the fire contained, and firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze on site. Fire officials said smoke filled the warehouse, and crews were working to determine the type of chemicals that were inside the room at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
