The Madison Fire Department was called to the hotel around 11:50 p.m. to address smoke that was coming from a utility room on the first floor, according to spokeswoman Amanda Hornung. When firefighters arrived, the carpet outside the first floor laundry room was soaked with water, said Hornung. Officials said that the crew found a moderate level of smoke, but no heat or active fire. Firefighters did report that one sprinkler head had been activated in the laundry room and that the fire was contained to a small area in the room.
