It was determined that a towel caught fire in the locker room which activated the sprinkler system. The activation set off the alarm system which evacuated the school. There were no reported injuries.

A hose was brought in, but Assistance Chief John Knapp said the sprinkler system put out the fire in the restroom. “The sprinkler and fire alarm system worked perfectly,” Darin said, “and the students were already outside when we arrived, so that was good.”

At that time, they also heard noises of doors rattling in the building and reported possible suspects inside the building. Firefighters immediately exited the building for safety reasons. Moments later, visible signs of fire were spotted at the right corner of the building. The automatic sprinkler system activated and firefighters extinguished the fire immediately, containing it to the one room.

Firefighters found that a side door on a theater building had been set on fire, melting the plexiglass window and damaging siding on the building. The fire had been put out by a sprinkler by the time firefighters arrived on scene. An arson investigator has determined the fire was deliberately set. There were no injuries due to the fire, according to San Jose Fire Capt. Rob.
