More than 100 students were evacuating the building when crews arrived. No one was injured.

Investigating, they discovered the attached garage was engulfed in flames. Sprinklers saved a home from what it could have been total destruction, according to West Dundee Fire Chief Randy Freise. The couple got out safely and no one was injured.

Peterson said the building’s sprinkler system helped suppress the fire and contained it to the room where it started, though there was water damage to some other rooms. “The suppression system put out the majority of the fire,” he said.

When fire crews responded to the call they discovered a burning pile of rubbish in the hallway. The sprinkler system in the three-story apartment contained the fire. About 30 occupants were evacuated and no injuries reported.
