Sprinklers save property and lives in apartment fire (Fergus Falls, MN)

At about 4:20 p.m. on Thursday, a grease fire began in the kitchen of an apartment. The residents, a mother and her two children, were able to evacuate without injury as the fire sprinkler activated and squelched the fire.

Fire Chief Mark Hovland said about the incident, “The fire sprinkler did its job. It could’ve been a lot worse if that sprinkler head would not have been in there.”

A four-story condominium caught fire on Monday morning on one of the unit’s enclosed porches. The heat from the fire activated the condominium’s fire sprinkler system, which Hampton Fire Chief reported helped to contain the fire to the porch area. No injuries were reported.

Sprinklers save lives and property in apartment fire (Hendersonville, TN)

An early evening fire erupted in the unit of an apartment when grease caught on fire while the tenant was cooking. The fire flared up, which then activated the fire sprinklers; the sprinklers contained and then eliminated the blaze while the resident and her daughter evacuated the apartment.

According to Fire Marshal Chuck Swann of the Hendersonville Fire Department, the fire could have been much worse had the sprinkler system not been present to activated immediately.

“Dry wall (that sustains water damage) can be replaced,” he said. “Lives lost to a fire can’t.”
