Sprinklers halt apartment fire (West Dennis, MA)

A mid-morning grease fire began in an apartment building on Sunday morning, and the complex’s fire sprinkler quickly extinguished the blaze. The resident’s were able to evacuate safely and without injury. Assistant Fire Chief John Donlan contrasted this incident with a fire two weeks earlier in an apartment that was not equipped with fire sprinklers; that fire sent 11 residents people to the hospital and caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.

Sprinklers keep fire from spreading into apartment building (Wilmington, NC)

A fire erupted in a work van and threatened to spread into the neighboring apartment building on Thursday afternoon. The apartment building was equipped with fire sprinklers, which kept the flames from overcoming the structure; firefighters reported that only minor exterior damage occurred thanks to the sprinklers. The cause of the van fire is under investigation, and there were no reported injuries.

Sprinklers prevent damage and injury in arson fire at apartment (Salt Lake City, UT)

Police and fire crews were called to a fire at an apartment complex on Saturday at about 3 a.m. The fire was set intentionally by the resident when she set her bed on fire. The fire sprinkler in the apartment unit contained the flames. According to the Salt Lake City fire officials, the sprinklers prevented a potentially deadly situation. No injuries were reported.

Apartment fire stopped by sprinklers (Niles, MI)

An fire erupted in the unit of an apartment on Friday morning, and firefighters were dispatched to the scene. The fire sprinkler activated in that unit, eliminating the fire before the fire crews arrived. 

Niles Fire Chief Larry Lamb said that there was minor minor smoke and fire damage thanks to the fire sprinkler. 

“You can see that the damage is a lot less extensive when we have sprinkler systems in place to protect our occupants.” Lamb said.

The fire was caused when the resident of the unit accidentally caught a vinyl shower curtain on fire with a match.

Sprinklers save property and lives in apartment fire (Fergus Falls, MN)

At about 4:20 p.m. on Thursday, a grease fire began in the kitchen of an apartment. The residents, a mother and her two children, were able to evacuate without injury as the fire sprinkler activated and squelched the fire. 

Fire Chief Mark Hovland said about the incident, “The fire sprinkler did its job. It could’ve been a lot worse if that sprinkler head would not have been in there.”
