Laundry facility fire contained by sprinkler system (Ocala, FL)

Fire sprinklers controlled a fire at an industrial laundry facility early Thursday, February 27. In the building’s processing center, a bin containing mop heads spontaneously combusted. The facility’s fire sprinkler activated and kept the fire from processing beyond the processing center until fire crews arrived to put out the fire. There were no injuries reported.

Sprinkler system saves 28 puppies from fire set by pet store owner (Las Vegas, NV)

Fire officials say a Las Vegas pet store owner is accused of setting her business ablaze, but all 28 puppies inside have been rescued.  Clark County Fire Department spokesman John Steinbeck says 35-year-old Gloria Lee was booked into the county jail on suspicion of first-degree arson after the fire early Monday morning at the Prince and Princess Puppy Boutique.  Steinbeck says in a statement issued early Saturday that the 28 puppies could have died if the sprinkler system hadn’t activated and firefighters hadn’t quickly extinguished the flames.  No people were injured.  County animal control officers took possession of the dogs, and they’re currently being housed at a local animal shelter.

Fire sprinkler system contains fire at bowling alley (Shrewsbury, MA)

A small fire started this morning in a storage closet at AMF Town & Country Lanes. The building’s sprinkler system contained the flames to that area, said Shrewsbury Fire Captain Seth Colby.  The fire started when no one was in the building and was accidental, but the exact cause is under investigation, Shrewsbury Fire Captain Seth Colby said.

Sprinkler system aids firefighters at health club fire (Owensboro, KY)

A health club had a fire occur in one of it’s clothes dryers. The dryer, which was full of towels, caught fire, and the outside of the unit began to burn. The heat from the fire activated the fire sprinkler which was near it; the sprinkler controlled the fire until fire crews arrived. Thirty people were in the building when the fire occurred but were able to evacuate safely.

Fire at manufacturing facility contained by fire sprinkler system (Conroe, TX)

A fire broke out at Pentair Industries on Saturday morning, and firefighters arrived to the scene at approximately 7 a.m. The origin of the fire was a filter drying oven, and the building’s fire sprinkler system activated and kept the fire from spreading beyond that point. Fire crews extinguished the remaining blaze, and no injuries were reported. 

The City of Conroe’s Fire Marshal’s Office reported that this incident displayed the effectiveness of properly installed and maintained fire sprinkler systems in reducing injuries, loss of life, and loss of property due to fire.

Fire at business extinguished by sprinkler system (New Hyde Park, NY)

Authorities are investigating a fire that broke out Wednesday in North New Hyde Park. Firefighters from Lakeville and Manhasset responded to an alarm for a working fire at 1111 Marcus Avenue in Building 6, according to NCPD. Nine trucks and about 40 firefighters arrived at the scene but found the fire had already been extinguished by a sprinkler system. Authorities stated that the fire appeared to be contained to one room in the building and started in a garbage pail in a cubicle.

Arson fire at emergency shelter extinguished by sprinkler system (Saskatoon, SK)

An early morning fire at The Lighthouse emergency shelter and supported living center in downtown Saskatoon was extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system.  Fire officials say the fire was intentionally set. Fire crews were called to the building just after 1:30 a.m. after receiving reports of smoke coming from the second floor. Firefighters arrived to find smoke and water on the second floor which was traced to the closet. No injuries were reported.

Sprinklers credited with saving non-profit building (Albermarle, NC)

When a fire broke out at West Stanly Christian Ministries in the early morning hours of Thursday, December 12, fire crews broke in through the front door to find that the majority of the fire had been doused by two sprinkler heads. The fire had began on the first floor when one of the building’s electrically-powered heating units malfunctioned. 

Fire sprinklers put out fire at aquarium (Dubuque, IA)

Fire crews were alerted to a fire at the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium on Saturday morning. The fire, which had started on the second floor of the aquarium in a tortoise enclosure, was eliminated by the building’s fire sprinkler by the time the crews arrived. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but no animals or people were injured in the incident.
