Fire at administrative office controlled by sprinkler system (Lenox, MA)

A fire began in the heating and cooling unit of an administrative office on Thursday, December 12. Four fire engines responded to the call, and thanks to the building’s fire sprinkler and fire doors, they were able to completely knock down the fire. No one was injured in the incident, and investigators ruled the fire as accidental.

A fire broke out in the electrical room of Hollywood Casino in Charles Town on Wednesday morning. Fire crews responded to the fire which was contained to the electrical room by the casino’s fire sprinkler and put out the remaining flames. “The fortunate thing was that, of course, that time of the morning it wasn’t many patrons in the building. With the quick action of Charles Town security and maintenance, by utilizing fire extinguishers to knock the bulk of the fire down, and the fire sprinklers popping on, it could have been a much, much, worse incident than it was,” said Independent Fire Company Chief Donnie Lanham.No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Discovery Center at Murfree Spring sustained no damage early Tuesday when a lamp over a snake’s aquarium shorted, causing a plastic top to melt. When crews arrived on scene, there were no visible flames or smoke,” said Ashley McDonald, public information officer for the Fire Department. Crews noted that the sprinkler system had the flames out upon their arrival. All reptiles, save for a Madagascar hissing cockroach, were unharmed in the incident.

Damage minimized at Boys & Girls Club thanks to fire sprinkler system (Lake Elsinore, CA)

On Tuesday, September 24, a fire was reported at a Boys & Girls Club at 7:42 p.m. Fire crews responded and found that the facility’s fire sprinkler system had already activated and kept the fire contained to the room where the fire had started. An “appliance malfunction” is being blamed for the blaze, and no one was injured.


Sprinklers control fire at commercial building (Falmouth, ME)

An afternoon fire began August 18 in the basement of a 30,000 square foot commercial building, and the responding fire crew is giving the building’s fire sprinklers credit for limiting the damage. According to Falmouth Fire Chief Howard Rice, Jr., one sprinkler head activated and controlled much of the fire that began in near the hot water heater in the basement; firefighters were able to extinguish the remaining fire in 15 minutes. There were no injuries reported.

The fire that began in a van in an automobile dealership’s showroom is under investigation according to representatives at the dealership. The fire began the morning of August 14, and it was quickly contained by the fire sprinkler system in the building. The damage was limited to the one vehicle, which representatives suspect had an electrical shortage. There were no injuries reported.
