The fire, quickly extinguished by the Los Angeles Fire Department, left 12 people temporarily displaced and caused $2,500 in damage, more than half to the structure itself, according to a fire spokesman. No one was injured when the fire broke out at about 11:30 p.m. but about 60 people evacuated the building in the 600 block of W. 35th Street, fire and school officials said. Twelve students were relocated to other housing locations, according to USC Dept. of Public Safety Deputy Chief David Carlisle. The other students were allowed back into the residence at 12:30 p.m. Fire investigators determined that candles that were briefly left unattended caused the mattress fire in a room on the third floor, fire officials said. Fire sprinklers held the smoky fire in check before 20 firefighters put out the fire entirely. “If you’re going to use candles, be very, very careful as to how close those candles, or open flame, are going to be to anything that could catch fire,” Battalion Chief Jamie Moore said. Students said they got the message and would start taking the school rule against candle use in the dorms more seriously. “We have a candle in our room,” Vachuska said. “We never think to light it. Gonna throw that out!”

The fire originated in an eighth-floor apartment at Bethany Village, The sprinkler system activated and several medic units have been requested. Washington Twp. fire Capt. Ron Kern said the fire began in the kitchen of an eighth-floor apartment, and said the cause is under investigation. He also confirmed that two residents have been displaced because of water damage that occurred from floors eight to five.The building was being evacuated as fire crews arrived, Kern said, lauding staff for its quick work in starting that process when the fire alarm was activated. He did not know how many residents and staff had to be evacuated. We’re told by a maintenance worker at the facility that there was a fire in the kitchen of an apartment on the eighth floor, but it was quickly put out by firefighters and the building sprinkler system. Only the eighth floor was evacuated, fire officials said, and two units are now inhabitable because of water damage.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m., crews were dispatched to The Infinity, 390 Bee St. Upon arrival, it was determined the fire had already been put out. The sprinkler system was triggered, according to the fire department. Fire Marshal Steve Trella was on scene investigating the incident. There was damage above the stove, as well as minor water damage to the apartment and the room below.

The fire started after someone in a third floor apartment unit on the 800 block of East D Street left a pan of oil unattended on the stove around 6 p.m. Firefighters also say although the water damage was significant, the fire sprinkler system was instrumental in saving lives and further property damage from an extensive fire. Having the sprinklers activate saved the building from severe structural damage from the fire. Water is usually easier and quicker to clean than rebuilding from fire damage. Also water is less hazardous to the occupants than smoke and fire. Without the activation of the fire sprinkler system, the lives of the people in all 18 units could have been affected.
Apartment Building, Residential Red Wing, MN – Apartment fire on seventh floor extinguished by sprinkler system May 12, 2015 viking210 Jordan Towers 1 in Red Wing was damaged early Sunday afternoon by a fire, and water that put it out. The Red Wing Fire Department said the fire alarm was reported at 12:48 p.m. When firefighters arrived two minutes later, they learned the fire was on the seventh floor. The found a stove fire that had gone into a wall had been put out by the sprinkler system. Fire damage was minimal but water has to be removed from several floors. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire started about 10:25 a.m. in a third-floor kitchen at Town Village, 13000 N May Avenue. A sprinkler system inside the building extinguished the fire within minutes, Oklahoma City fire Battalion Chief Brian Stanaland said. No injuries were reported. Crews remain on the scene to deal with the smoke problem.

Initial reports indicate a fire broke out caused by an electrical heater on the building’s first floor, Pasco County spokesman Doug Tobin wrote in an email to media. Units on the scene have not reported any signs of smoke or fire, Tobin noted, but an evacuation is in progress as a precaution. No further details are available at this time.
Apartment Building, Nursing Home/Senior Living, Residential Franklin, OH – Fire at low-income senior apartment building extinguished by sprinkler system May 11, 2015 viking210 Emergency crews were summoned to Meadow Crossing, 825 Central Ave. for a possible fire about 12:40 p.m. requiring the evacuation of residents from the building’s second floor, according to the Warren County Communications Center. a senior apartment building in Carlisle for a reported fire. “It sounded a lot worse that it really was,” said Carlisle Fire Chief Krista Wyatt. “The sprinklers did their job.” The fire had been put out and firefighters worked to clear the building of smoke and look for any extensions of the fire. Wyatt said the side laminate veneer of the bathroom’s vanity created enough heat to set off the fire sprinklers. She said two to three apartments received some smoke or water damage in addition to the bathroom’s vanity. There are 36 one-bedroom apartments for elderly residents who earn 50 percent or below the regional median income. The building is owned by Warren County Community Services and it received a score of 97 out of 100 on its 2014 inspection by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Residential, Townhouse / Condominium Branson, MO – Sprinkler system helps contain condominium fire May 11, 2015 viking210 A Branson-area condominium was evacuated Saturday afternoon after flames broke out in one unit. According to the Southern Stone County Fire Protection District, crews were dispatched to the fire at 21 Stillwaters Trail in Indian Point just before 2:30 p.m. Officials say an Indian Point police officer who first arrived on scene and a maintenance worker extinguished the flames. Crews say someone left a plastic cooler on an electric stove, which started the blaze. “This could have been bad. This is a large building with numerous tourists. The fire sprinkler activated with audible alarms. The alarm company notified us and everyone is safe,” stated Fire Marshal Jim Harding. Nobody was in the unit when the fire broke out. Both the Indian Point officer and maintenance worker were evaluated on scene by Taney County Ambulance for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.

The department release states that the fire started on a stove after cooking was left unattended. Crews activated the building’s sprinkler system and confined the fire to the stove top. Damage was estimated at $5,000 and no one was injured, the release states.
