It broke out in the kitchen, and it was suppressed by the sprinkler system that had been installed in the building weeks earlier. The Neath Port Talbot Community Safety Department, Coastal Housing, and NPT Social Services had determined in February that the tenant of the flat was sufficiently at risk and had the fire sprinkler installed. Following the extinguishing of the fire by the sprinkler system, the man was found on the premises and was evacuated safely. No injuries were reported.
