Manufacturing, Manufacturing Plant Lee’s Summit, MO – Early morning fire in semi-conductor manufacturing facility held in check by sprinkler system November 21, 2016 viking210 On Friday, November 18, 2016, at 5:16 a.m., the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at Diodes/Fabtech, 777 NW Blue Parkway, in the north building of the Summit Technology Campus. Security called to report smoke in the building and alarms sounding. When the fire department arrived, light smoke was visible from the east side of the 540,000 square foot, mixed use facility. The building was in the process of being evacuated. Employees reported a fire in the fabrication area. The fire was located in the fabrication area in the northeast corner of the building and involved a piece of processing equipment used in the semi-conductor manufacturing process. Multiple sprinkler heads above the area activated as the fire grew and kept the fire isolated to the room of origin. Fire crews were then able to advance a hose line to the area and extinguish the fire. The Lee’s Summit Police Department and building security assisted with evacuation of the building. The fire was under control at 5:40 a.m. After the fire was under control, fire crews checked the area for fire spread into to concealed space above the room and assessed the area for any hazards with the chemicals used with the machine. Employees working in the area that attempted to fight the fire were also evaluated for any possible injuries. There were no additional hazards found and no injuries reported Fire damage was contained to the area around the large piece of equipment with smoke damage throughout the remainder of the Diodes/Fabtech fabrication area. After the fire was out and air monitoring was complete; all of the buildings tenants were allowed to reoccupy the building with the exception of a portion of Fabtech/Diodes. The fire originated in the piece of manufacturing equipment. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
