The fire department was called to 185 Lyon Street North at 8:15 a.m. as residents were brought to the building’s lobby. The smoke and water was limited to a unit under renovation and an adjacent unit. Fire crews were clearing the scene within the hour.

Aurora, IL – Single fire sprinkler keeps apartment fire from spreading to other rooms
An apartment fire in downtown Aurora caused $35,000 worth of damage early Sunday morning.
Aurora firefighters responded to a fire alarm in an apartment building around 1:30 a.m. on the 100 block of East Downer Place, fire officials said in a news release.
Firefighters saw smoke on the upper floors and located the source in an apartment on the second floor where a sprinkler head activated and extinguished a fire in the living room area, officials said.
The fire was contained to the apartment but adjacent units sustained water damage. The resident living in the apartment was displaced and assisted by victim services to find temporary housing.
Beavercreek, OR – Cooking fire extinguished by fire sprinkler system in third-floor apartment
Cooking left on the stove is being blamed for the fire, which left a third-floor apartment and one below it uninhabitable, Beavercreek Twp. Fire Lt. Matt Clark said.
The sprinkler system kept the fire in check and extinguished it quickly.
Lt. Clark estimated the damage to the apartments and their contents at $20,000.
The person taken to a hospital suffered from smoke inhalation, he said.
Crews were dispatched to the Lofts, 2621 Hibiscus Way, just after 11 p.m. on the report of a structure fire, according to Beavercreek police and fire dispatch.
Fall River, MA – Sprinkler system suppresses fire caused by careless disposal of cigarette; No injuries reported
“It was determined that it was the careless disposal of cigarettes in a trash barrel,” said Fire Department Capt. Neil Furtado.
Furtado said the trash barrel was in a third-floor unit of a rooming house at 515 South Main St.
Fire investigators found a cigarette butt embedded in the melted plastic of the trash barrel “which was a strong indicator that’s where the fire started,” Furtado said.
The building’s sprinkler system suppressed the fire but caused water damage to the 18-unit structure, said Furtado. Investigators pegged the cost of the damage at approximately $15,000.
No injuries were reported to fire personnel or building residents, according to Furtado.
Firefighters responded to the building about 2:15 p.m. Monday. The residence was located along the parade route near where the parade stepped off from Kennedy Park.
The Veterans Day parade was briefly paused so that fire apparatus could approach the scene.
Chesapeake, VA – Sprinkler system controls kitchen fire; No injuries reported
The call came in at 7:46 p.m.
The first unit arrived on scene seven minutes later to find the small kitchen fire being controlled by the sprinkler system.
Firefighters quickly initiated an attack and made sure that the building was clear. The fire was completely extinguished at 8:09 p.m.
No one was hurt, and the residents are being assisted with lodging arrangement.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
McKinney, TX – (No media coverage) Single fire sprinkler stops apartment cooking fire; No injuries reported
The McKinney Fire Department (MFD) responded to the report of a structure fire at The Rustic of McKinney Apartments (2700 North Brook Dr.) on Thursday, Nov. 7. MFD units found a single fire sprinkler had activated and extinguished a grease fire in a pan that was left on the stovetop.
No one was injured and the fire sprinkler reduced costly damage to a minimum as well as limited the amount of repair time tenants would be kept out of the apartment. Investigators say the resident was distracted by a cellphone when the fire broke out.
“Home fires caused by cooking peak around Thanksgiving and Christmas,” said Merit Ossian, McKinney Fire Department PIO and Education Coordinator. “With those holidays coming up, this is a good reminder to be diligent when you’ve got food on the stove or in the oven.”

San Antonio, TX – Suspicious fire set to Halloween decorations contained to outside of apartment thanks to fire sprinklers; No injuries reported
Firefighters responded around 4:30 a.m. to the apartment complex in the 7100 block of New Laredo Highway after receiving reports of a ringing alarm.
Firefighters said it appears someone set fire to a Halloween decoration hanging on the door of a third-floor apartment.
Authorities say the fire never went beyond the door, but it did set off the sprinkler system and the building alarm, alerting residents.
The sprinkler system dumped water onto the concrete landing outside the apartments but very little got inside anyone’s home, firefighters said.
There were no reported injuries.
Wheaton, IL – Apartment fire stopped by fire sprinklers; No injuries reported
When fire crews got to the scene and found a dryer on fire in a fifth-floor apartment. They say the unit’s fire sprinkler system brought the blaze under control, but that smoke and water damage left it uninhabitable.
No other units were affected and no injuries were reported, fire officials say.
According to the Wheaton Fire Department, the cause of the fire appears to be accidental.
Scranton, PA – High-rise apartment fire held in check by sprinkler system
Fire crews in Scranton are on the scene of another high-rise fire.
The call came in around 5:45 a.m on Thursday for a fire at the Adams High-Rise Apartments on Adams Avenue.
Officials say the fire started in a storage unit on the second floor. The sprinkler system did go off.
Two residents were taken to the hospital for breathing in smoke, and a firefighter does have a minor injury.
A fire inspector is looking into the cause.
This is also the second fire at a high-rise in Scranton in less than 24 hours.
McKinney, TX – (No media coverage) Fire sprinkler shuts down grease fire at apartment; No injuries reported
The McKinney Fire Department (MFD) responded to a call Saturday evening about a grease fire in a kitchen at the 1701 at Eldorado apartments. MFD units arrived to find the fire had been extinguished by a single fire sprinkler head placed in the ceiling above the stove that kept damage to a minimum. No one was injured.
“Incidents like this highlight the need for more home fire sprinkler systems;” said McKinney Fire Marshal Mike Smith. “Without the fire sprinkler’s fast response, those flames would have spread quickly. That means more costly damage and a longer repair time.”
