First arriving units reported a vehicle fire inside the first floor garage of building 7. The building’s sprinkler system had held the fire in check and firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire. Fire damage was confined to the garage with light smoke damage to the adjacent apartment. There were no reported injuries and Conroe Fire Investigators are working on the cause. Beaver Dam, WI – Sprinkler system stops spread of fire at apartment complex
A sprinkler system saved a Beaver Dam apartment building from widespread damage on Friday.
Just after 3pm, the Beaver Dam Fire Department was dispatched to Mary Ann Road for a report of a garage fire which was located directly below the apartments. Crews arrived on scene to find smoke visible from the garage. Fire Chief Alan Mannel says the new apartments were equipped with sprinklers that extinguished the fire prior to the arrival of first responders. He says without the sprinklers installed, the fire may have been (quote) “catastrophic.” Mannel adds examples like these are why fire departments around the state stress the importance of sprinklers in multi-family structures and apartment complexes.
Pearland, TX (no media coverage) – Dryer fire at nursing home put out by single fire sprinkler
On Sunday November 15,2020 at 19:40 hours crews were dispatched to the 3400 blk of Business Center drive; a nursing home for an reported fire. Crews arrived on scene and found an active fire inside of an industrial clothes dryer. The fires progression was impeded by the activation on a single sprinkler head. The fire was contained to the drier unit with no surrounding damage. No residents were displaced from fire.
Spokane, WA – Kitchen fire extinguished by apartment sprinkler system
A kitchen fire was extinguished early Sunday by the Spokane County Fire Department.
The fire was reported on E 55 Ave. as residents could see smoke coming out of the second floor of the building. The fire department said that the situation could have been much worse, as a sprinkler system installed in the building was able to control the fire until the authorities arrived.

New London, CT – Kitchen fire in high-rise apartment put out by sprinkler system
City firefighters received the call at 7:36 p.m. for a stove fire in a unit on the second floor. The sprinkler system put out the fire but flooded units on the first and second floors, the fire department said. Responding firefighters evacuated eight apartments, ventilated the building and assisted with water removal.
The resident of the apartment where the fire occurred had to be relocated and was being assisted by Red Cross.
Falmouth, MA – Sprinkler system puts out apartment fire before fire crews arrive; No injuries reported
Fire crews were dispatched to 138 Teaticket Highway at 10:35 a.m., Absten said. The sprinkler system had extinguished the fire by the time they arrived, he said.
Crews checked for any fire extension, but there was none, Absten said. There was damage from the fire and water damage from the sprinkler system, he said.
There were no injuries, Absten said.
The Falmouth Housing Authority is seeking a place for the displaced resident to stay, Absten said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, he said.
Franklin Park, IL – Fire at senior apartments extinguished by fire sprinklers; No injuries reported
The building’s fire alarm activated shortly before 3:30 p.m., and automatic sprinklers extinguished the fire before firefighters arrived on the scene in the 9500 block of Franklin Avenue, Franklin Park Fire Chief William Brehm said in an email.
“Residents were evacuated and evaluated for safety, but there were no injuries or transports (to the hospital),” Brehm said.
Only the apartment that caught fire was damaged, and that was limited to water damage from the sprinkler system, Brehm said. The damage was cleaned up the same day by an outside company, according to Brehm.
Houston, TX (no media coverage) – Single sprinkler head controlled apartment fire
HCFMO investigators and inspectors responded to an apartment fire in the 14400 block of Cornerstone Vlg. One sprinkler head activated controlling the fire until the fire department arrived. Investigators were able to find a match among the fire debris and obtained a confession.
Burlington, IA – Accidental apartment cooking fire put out by fire sprinklers
According to a news release, the department responded at approximately 9:08 p.m. to the Burlington Apartments, located at 206 North 3rd Street in Burlington, for an automated sprinkler water flow alarm.
Shortly after receiving the alarm, the fire department says dispatchers with DESCOM started receiving 911 calls of a fire on the fourth floor of the nine-story apartment building.
Firefighters arrived at 9:11 p.m. and found fire alarms activating and the building being evacuated. When firefighters got to the fourth floor, they located one activated sprinkler head in one of the apartment unit kitchens.
An investigation revealed there had been an accidental cooking fire. It was extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system.
The fire department says the overall fire damage was minimal. Firefighters focused on shutting down the sprinkler system and controlling water damage.
The apartment building is owned by Historic Burlington, LLC and is insured. There were five apartments affected with six residents displaced.
The West Burlington Fire Department, Burlington Police Department, Alliant Energy and American Red Cross assisted at the scene.
