Virginia, MN – Apartment fire contained to one unit by sprinkler system

The Virginia Fire Department told the Northland Fire Wire several people have been displaced from an apartment building following a fire on Sunday afternoon.

Crews were called to the fire in the Ivy Manor Apartments on First Street North around 4:30.

The Virginia Fire Department told The Northland Fire Wire the building’s sprinkler system contained the fire to one apartment.

The people displaced are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

Virginia, Eveleth, and Mountain Iron firefighters responded to the call.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Reno, NV – Apartment kitchen fire extinguished by sprinkler system; No injuries reported

A sprinkler put out a fire at a downtown Reno apartment. A half dozen units are unable to be occupied and some residents may need American Red Cross help to find a a place to stay Thursday night. The Reno Fire Department responded to the Siegel Suites Nevadan at 133 N. Virginia Street about 5:35 p.m. January 10, 2019 after a fire alarm sounded. There was a small fire in a unit on the 14th floor – possibly caused by a microwave oven – but the fire sprinklers extinguished it, Battalion Chief Robert Casos said.

Ten fire trucks and engines and about 30 fire personnel responded and Virginia Street was closed for about two hours, Casos said. Siegel Suites had available units for some of the people who were displaced but it appears the fire chaplain will have to help some of the tenants find a place to stay at least for Thursday night, Casos said. “We’ll make sure that everybody finds a place.

Lafayette, LA – Early morning balcony fire at student apartment complex extinguished by sprinkler

The Lafayette Fire Department says they responded to a balcony fire on Thursday morning at The Quarters student apartment complex in Lafayette. Officials say a sprinkler alarm was activated around 2:30 am at the complex prompting the investigation. When firefighters arrived, complex residents were outside and several witnesses indicated the fire was on the balcony of a second-floor apartment.

Firefighters gained access to the apartment and conducted a search for occupants. Officials say those occupants all exited the apartment without injury. Light smoke was observed on the balcony and officials say that a sprinkler on the balcony had extinguished the fire. The area received moderate damage. A quick investigation by firefighters determined the fire started due to improperly discarded smoke material. The fire has been ruled accidental.

Mauldin, SC – Fire at apartment complex held in check by sprinkler system until fire department arrives

On Sunday the Mauldin Fire Department responded to a fire at an apartment complex on Butler Road. Chief Bill Stewart said on Sunday afternoon the department received a call for a fire that broke out at the Bell Brookfield Apartments. Chief Stewart says the fire started on the third floor of one of the apartments as the result of a dryer. He went on to state that the sprinkler unit in the apartment held the fire in check. According to the Chief, there was damage to the unit’s laundry room, and water damage to the two apartments below. We’re told by the fire department that the apartment complex was able to move all the people who lived in the three units to vacant units and that luckily, no one was hurt. The Red Cross has also responded to help those impacted.

St. Louis, MO – Sprinkler system suppresses apartment fire; Firefighters rescue small puppy

Firefighters rescued this small puppy from a loft apartment fire Sunday. The fire was in the 5300 block of Brannon in south St. Louis. The sprinkler system extinguished most of the fire at The Mack Lofts. It appears everyone made it out OK. The St. Louis Fire Department tweeted this photo of a Tom Moore providing aid and love for this small puppy they rescued from the apartment. The pic has gone viral, with hundreds of reactions.

Stafford, TX – (no media coverage) Patio fire kept from spreading inside apartment by sprinkler systems

** Fire Department Reported – No Media Coverage ** On the evening of 01/02/2019, Stafford Fire Department was dispatched to an apartment fire in the 3300 block of Dove County in Stafford, unincorporated Fort Bend County, TX. Personnel arrived to find a working fire on a back patio that had breached the doorway and had begun to come inside of the apartment. Three sprinkler heads activated inside of the apartment which kept the fire contained to only the unsprinklered open air back patio. Fire suppression personnel quickly extinguished the fire on the back patio. The apartment in which the fire occurred suffered smoke, heat, and water damage from fire suppression. The apartment on either side of the affected unit also suffered minor damage.

Fresno, CA – Apartment fire quickly extinguished by sprinkler system

A woman was displaced from her apartment Sunday after accidentally starting a fire while putting away Christmas decorations, according to Fresno Fire Department Battalion Chief Thomas Cope.

Fire crews arrived to the CityView Apartments on Van Ness Avenue and Inyo Street just before 3 p.m. They immediately evacuated the whole building, Cope said.

The woman told firefighters she was putting Christmas decorations into a box and temporarily placed the box on the stove top, starting the fire.

The sprinkler system extinguished the fire quickly, but because of smoke damage, it will be unlivable for some time.

Salisbury, NC – Stovetop apartment fire contained by sprinkler system

The Salisbury Fire Department contained an early Sunday morning structural fire at 200 Castlewood Drive.

Around 4 a.m. firefighters responded to a stovetop fire at Apartment #313 and contained it with help from the sprinkler system.

One occupant was treated by Rowan County EMS and transported for smoke inhalation.

Salisbury Police and Rowan Rescue were also on the scene.

Appleton, WI – Apartment fire extinguished by sprinkler system before fire crews arrived

The Appleton Fire Department says it has added a third red bulb to its wreath after a fire inside an apartment building.

The 2018 Keep the Wreath Green Campaign is designed to promote fire safety and reduce the number of fires during the holiday season.

On Saturday morning, around 1:30 a.m Appleton firefighters were called out to a fire on East Peter Street. When firefighters were en route, the fire was already out.

The fire in the bathroom of an apartment was put out by the sprinkler system. Fire officials said the fire started in a garbage can in the bathroom because of improper disposal of smoking materials.

Two adults and three kids were assisted by the American Red Cross. 
Officials said the sprinkler system in this case undoubtedly saved the building from additional fire damage.

The Appleton Fire Department would like to remind everyone to use caution when disposing of smoking materials. 

Blandon, PA – Sprinkler system activates in overnight fire at senior residential complex

State Police at Reading investigated a fire around 11 p.m. Wednesday night at Keystone Villa that left multiple residents displaced. Crews found a smoke condition throughout one portion of the structure on the second floor and fire at a wall mounted heating/air conditioning unit. The building was evacuated by employees and crews extinguished the fire. An employee was treated at the scene and two residents were transported for non-life threatening injuries, police say. The damage estimate is unknown … <there was> activation of the sprinkler system. The fire is classified as accidental. The Red Cross was on scene providing assistance to displaced residents.
